one name that should be on the list, believe it or not, is Beckerman. Those of you that wren't around early in his Rapids career missed it, but he used to get abused like we abused Ballouchy. His last 2-3 years in Colorado that (obviously) changed. Other suggestions: Joey DiGimarino, Thaigo Martins, Facundo Erpen, Pat Noonan, Ian Feuer, Giles Grimandi, and Daniel Amokachi.
I remember when I was around here a lot in 2004 or 2005 there was a lot of hate for Eric Denton. Did that change later?
And poor Dan Gargan. You guys used to abuse him something awful. Then he turned his game around and folks liked him for about half a season, and he got hurt soon after and never played much again.
I think it was WJMarx that had a hilarious line about him being of NT quality in response to someone on this board's over sell of Gibbs talent.
I love that this list has 2 scoring champs on it (and nearly a 3rd). It's a tough love here, tough but fair.
While "scoring leaders" may be technically true, the actual amount scored by both combined was less than what Conor Casey scored in '09 all by his lonesome. Same goes for Omar in '10. My personal list? Kirovski, Ballouchy, Trembley, Martins, Cullen. Honorable mentions for Grimandi, Gibbs and Special ED. Somehow I could never get myself around to hating Nico.
Oh, I know the totals were anemic. Niko gets a pass in my book because he scored against Dallas in the playoffs. Also, in 2006 he had some game winners in his grand total of 7. Looking at the list again reminds me 2007 was not a good year on the pitch, and it sours even further for me after seeing what Spurting Club did with their inaugural year.
Oh man, I completely forgot about Seth Trembley. Enter the game, run around like a maniac, pass the ball to the other team, immediately draw a card, then repeat... Another candidate might be Clint Mathias who never could seem to be able to bother to get his body in good enough shape to use his once plentiful talents. Agreed about Nico - at least he had a good attitude and was supportive of his teammates.
Secondhand story but a friend ran into him at a local bar last year and he was very self-aware about why he wasn't playing any more while other guys who came into the league at the same time were. I've got to give him a point for that at least.
Can't believe Peguero has not been mentioned yet. And when he and the aforementioned Jeff "El Veneno" Cunningham were on the field together, each screaming for the ball so they could flop in the box, it took everything I had not to boo until I passed out. Dark...dark days
The Stevenage replay at Spurs is today. Looks like it didn't make FSC with all the champions leaguing going on, which is probably just as well. Caleb Folan did not make the gameday list in yesterday's replay.
I was curious how Stevenage was doing. If you recall, when Gary Smith took the helm they were hanging onto 6th, the last of 4 playoff slots for the 3rd promotion spot. They're now 7th, 3 pts out of 6th, with 8 games to play. League record under Smith is 2-7-2. All those draws bring back memories, don't they?
