I dont think anyone has any antagonism towards anything or at least anything I have read in this thread. People may have a difference in opinion of how to go about it and that is okay. When you have a dozen or more people sharing opinions, they are not going to be right in line with each other because they are simply opinions and they can not be right or wrong.

Since we do not have all the facts, there is really no right or wrong way to go about this other than being overly hostile which is rarely good in any situation.

This is a discussion board and the main purpose here is for people to vent, share opinions, offer advice, share information, expertise, etc. That is all that has happened in this thread and I think that is a good thing. I dont see how anyone can see how this thread turned sour. This is exactly the kind of thing a message board is for.

Are you implying that they make a new trophy every year and then keep them all at the league headquarters?

no they're talking about how there is only one true trophy but the teams get copies made to display

I'm not sure if they simply etch each new champion's name onto one trophy, or if they make a new one every year, or if they keep one of each of the designs. The point though is that no one actually possesses their actual championship trophy, the league holds the trophy in trust for every champion. I just think that both the Hunts and SKC should probably be entitled to display their history and honors, so I don't see why there can't be two replicas, now that HSG and SKC are separate entities. Surely this isn't the first time this situation has arisen. After all, AEG has sold off championship teams before. If we can't have two replicas, maybe if we agreed to display it next to a bust of Lamar or something?

That's lame. Why does MLS do that? No other major professional league in America does that.

    Your statement is not true.

There is only one "real" Stanley Cup. Teams get replicas. Just like MLS.

Just for informational purposes, is the 1985 World Series trophy on display at Kauffman stadium real?

God I hate to do this but here it goes...

What is real? how do you define real? if you're talking about what you can fell, what you can smell, what you can taste and see then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

but there is one in the stadium and one either at the Kauffman home or foundation, I've heard two different things.

    Hot off the presses:

The Cup will be on display at LSP this season, then goes on permanent display in a Lamar Hunt memorial gallery at Arrowhead. A replica will be made for the SKC trophy case.

Sounds fair. I actually find it cool that Lamar valued that championship so much that keeping the trophy was part of the sales agreement.

But I'm willing to cut Lamar Hunt some slack. I know some people aren't. (Clark, on the other hand.....)

I have been to most NHL arenas and I have never seen a replica Stanley Cup in any trophy case. Do they have the replicas for fans to see? Did I just miss it? I thought there were only three cups. The Original, the one that they present to players on the ice when they win, and the replica that sits in the case at the hockey hall-of-fame when the real cup isn't there.

I agree that this thread has been fun. Any strongly worded opinions were in good fun and debate. This board isn't worth visiting if there aren't differing opinions and banter. I invite kcsc back and hope this continues.

And I hope we get our cup, or some form of the cup, back in the members club.

And then I scroll up to see that Clark has heard the voices and reached out a hand in compromise. Good for him. I'm glad this found a quick resolution, and while it may not meet the demands of every fan I think it is fair.

Clark backed up what I already knew, he wants that trophy because he and his father put work in together to win it. That is fair and any hatred toward him about that is to discredit his family and what they have done for soccer in our city. Some people may not like how the team was run under the Hunts but never forget that we wouldn't even have a team at all without them.

Congratulations everyone on getting a result, and thanks Northbank for getting this started! While everyone may not be completely satisfied, the passion in this thread probably went a long way toward getting a result.

Wow, and here I was thinking this didn't have a chance in hell of coming off. Credit to both Northbank and Clark Hunt that they were able to find common ground. Well done!

I'm not surprised with this resolution at all. In fact, from a business perspective, I am impressed with what he accomplished (not saying I agree but just that he concluded this in a manner that a man of his stature would be skilled enough to do). This is exactly the reason the Hunts are billionaires. My point in an earlier post to Ben even though I went way further than this was that Clark Hunt is a businessman and at the end of the day, he is more concerned about his bottom line than sentiment. If he felt threatened enough about image and PR, he was going to find away to get rid of this as fast as possible and try to come off as professional and kind as possible while still trying to get what he wanted. By doing what he did, he basically found a optimal resolution that accomplished both. I am not surprised at all, especially given that the trophy was already in KC and at the end of the day, he still gets what he wants.

Putting the trophy at Arrowhead accomplishes his goal but is it really the optimal resolution for all involved? How many people are truly going to appreciate it at Arrowhead? Yes, this is something that is being done for Lamar but as Ben indicated, most Chiefs fans are at the most, apathetic about Sporting and a small amount of people will likely take the time to admire and appreciate the trophy at that location.

With that said, this is probably the best we could hope for being that HSG owns it and if OnGoal is making another replica, they are satisfied with this resolution as well. The most we can do at this point is continue to bitch but the controlling parties in this situation (HSG & OnGoal) have come to an agreement and I doubt anything further can be done.

If I were a betting man, I would bet that either Clark called Robb or Robb called Clark and they basically said, we need to come to an agreement that gets rid of this as fast as possible before it gets out of hand. They are businessmen and this kind if shit isnt what they want to deal with at all. This was a potential PR nightmare for both parties. They needed to brush this under the rug quickly and at the same time, find a way to please the fans enough to shut them up.

I guess the fanbase as a whole has to decide if this is enough. I am not saying it is or isnt but that is the next step if there is any to be taken.

The one part I don't get is having the trophy in Arrowhead. Chiefs fans as a whole couldn't care less and most won't even know what it is unless there is an explanation. And if there is an explanation the general reaction will be as I described two nights ago. But, you can't change Clark's feelings about the Cup.

My guess is that he cant let it go because of his father. Maybe he feels that it would dishonor him by doing so. If Lamar felt strongly enough to hold onto it during the sale, it must have meant a lot to him. But, I would also like to think that Lamar would understand that now that we have an SSS built, it should be there. When the team was sold, it would have been nice if Lamar said, "When you get an SSS built, we will reward you by giving you this trophy". Or maybe he wanted it to be HSGs property forever. We will never know.
