Kljestan (and Jozy?): 23 feb 2012: Anderlecht-AZ (Europa League) 21:05 CET

Discussion in 'Yanks Abroad Gameday' started by feyenoordsoccerfan, Feb 22, 2012.

  1. After the messed up match against FC Utrecht the whole team was ordered to log in the AZ site at home and watch the match to analyse what went wrong. Well, it all went down after the red card and the not so good handling of that situation.
There are no injuries at AZ, so I expect the same team starting as in the first encounter with Anderlecht. Anderlecht has an injury in the attack.

so does that mean he starts?

  3. No idea about the line up of the teams.

According to "Het Nieuwsblad" this thursday night alot of scouts of foreign teams head for the "Constant Vanden Stock" stadium.

Fulham en Liverpool have their eye on Dieumerci Mbokani. With them also AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Genoa, Hamburger SV, sc Heerenveen, Lille, FC Mainz, Málaga, Valenciennes, West Bromwich Albion en VfL Wolfsburg send in their men.

Anderlecht is dominating early. They should be 2-0 up after 5 minutes.

And now Suarez hits the post with a full volley from 20 yards.

AZ have settled down and there have been few chances since that opening 5-6 minutes. Kljestan has had a quiet match.

Biglia takes a Anderlecht FK from distance, AZ clears to the feet of Kljestan.

Kljestan's left footed shot from distance flies straight to the feet of Gillet, who is in a great position but was offside.

Appears that Benschop pulled his right thigh a little. We'll see how that goes.

He seems fine after getting a short treatment.

3v2 and Benschop decides to fire from 25 yards out....wow.

First shot on goal for AZ, Benschop bounces a volley into the hands of Proto.

Great FK by Kljestan from 30 yards, Esteban makes a diving save to tip it over.

Were those U-S-A chants on the free kick, which was on target and dangerous.

Sacha with a fantastic drive off a FK from ~30 yards out that is just barley pushed over the bar.

Jozy coming on for Benschop in the '44...very odd. Maybe due to the injury earlier?

Altidore is subbed in right before the half.

Altidore on for (an injured?) Benschop right before the half. Jozy needs to pull the patented Clint Mathis score-and-point-at-the-watch celebration.

Altidore with a great touch that leads to a Maher volley just barley wide right at the end of the half.

Altidore's fantastic flick leads to a very good chance for AZ that goes just wide. In 2 minutes, he did more than Benschop did in 43. Earlier, Benschop ruined a good 3 on 2 chance by shooting a weak shot right at the keeper from about 25 yards out.

Not risking him...? I would guess Verbeek is more worried about a win than risking Benschop's health.

Jozy has been caught offsides a number of times already...needs to get his timing down quick.
