Ah, people were talking about Wikipedia. People kept saying "wiki" and I didn't know which wiki they were talking about.
well, salihi participated in a full scrimmage this morning with the squad split into two teams (per Goff). not even the smallest teaser about how he was.
Video interview and shots of him playing in todays training: http://www.dcunited.com/news/2012/02/ready-to-strike
Interesting, didn't know he already spoke English. At least we don't have to worry about a language barrier.
"I had every day something new," Salihi said of his transfer options. "From Russia, Turkey, some clubs from Germany, but not big clubs. I was really close to Celtic and Glasgow Rangers, but they have really big problems with money. With everything I calculated in my head was that D.C. was the best opportunity." full story Like Christian Gomez said: The checks come on time.
True but oddly enough the checks would of come on time too in Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga, Russian Premier League and probably most Turkish clubs. Even the mid table/bottom table teams in these leagues can cut some pretty nice checks. Yet again I just can't underline enough how surprising this move is. In my estimation for a player of his stature a mid table club in Germany, Russia or Turkey would be preferable to a move to MLS. There's many reasons for this. There's less risk of losing your resale value. A guy his age still needs to think ahead at the next contract he needs to get before retirement. This is by no means a final payday for him. The other factor is maintaining relevance to the national team ... and a guy Salihi's age should still be looking forward to at least one more WC and one more Euro qualifying round in his career. And Albania is a good enough program that a good pro should want to be part of it. Albania is not that far from one day soon challenging for a qualification to something. Basically all this says to me is that DC flexed its muscle. We went in and gave this guy a better contract than what he had in UEFA. Kudos to the front office! This is not only a coup for DCU, but MLS as a whole.
