I remember those days. Do you guys feel that as each year passes, the credibility of MLS keeps increasing? Imagine if Beckham and Gals pull in another MLS cup, that would be quite something for the MLS front offices.
Haven't read the whole thread so I appologize if these have already been brought up. 1) There was a shootout to determine a winner instead of ties (this was brutal to watch) 2) Tampa and Miami played in front of 2,500 on a good night 3) Chicago was one of the best teams in the league as an expansion team because there were many players which had yet to be "discovered" because the league was small. 4) Crew stadium was a big deal and I drove 9.5 hours to watch a USMNT game, then after the game turned around and drove 9.5 hours back home.
And on that note: remember when MLS being featured on the FIFA game was a big deal? Way back when, I bought this game just because of the cover. In the end, I learned that Club Brugge existed, and there was a team named after a girl that had purple uniforms. (I swear that's how it showed up on my TV.)
Speaking of which: Remember when EA's FIFA series didn't include MLS (the first to include MLS was FIFA 2000)? Remember when the series started as FIFA International Soccer (it was only starting with the following year's FIFA Soccer 95 that the upcoming year was, and still is, included in each new version's title)?
Paid vs Actual attendance....but yeah, it was a low-ball but not by much unfortunately, just making a point. Lockhart Stadium was just worse than Spartan Stadium to watch a game. Those games were UGLY to watch on TV despite good offensive players.
I'm not so sure about that. After all, the overall on-field gameflow at Lockhart Stadium was much better as its playing field within the lines was/is 75x116 yards (close to the ideal 75x120 yards) while Spartan Stadium's was/is realistically an absurdly small 68x106 yards... and that was after Spartan's 1998 renovation that widened and lengthened its field. -G
Mitre was a sponsor, Brad Friedal had hair, and the Crew were First in Attendance and built the first training ground. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvfOmGI7LJE"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvfOmGI7LJE[/ame] RIP Tom Fitzgerald (1951-2004) you are still missed.
Remember when FC Barcelona Miami was a done deal? Or St. Louis for that matter? Remember when Paul Wright was good enough to play in this league? Remember when Title IX was going to destroy MLS/USMNT and Mexican fans would unfurl a banner thanking Title IX?
Remember when Hans Wvolner Fluerbach uttered "Moderators are a stupidface" and untruncated his weasel.
