Ugh I'm so jealous. But Houston averaged 17k a game without a SSS and now they're even closer to the city.. This could be the start of something beautiful in Houston. With only a 5k increase in attendance needed to sell out BBVA Compass Stadium, do you think the dynamo can sell out all or most of their games? If not what percentage do you think they'll hit in 2012? 85% filled? 90%?
Not if it's 110 degrees outside at game time like it was last summer for some Houston and Dallas matches..............
We will have some challenges due to the schedule. For those who have not been to Houston, it is a very expansive city and can take 60-90 minutes to get into town from some of the suburbs depending on traffic. Unfortunately, we have two Tuesday night, two Wednesday night, and a Thursday night game this year. One of those is before July 4; but the other four are work/school nights. I am going to guess those don't draw a sell-out crowd and even if they get close a decent amount of STH will have to miss those games. We also have two end of May/June games in the afternoon. That is idiotic as it is likely to be 90 degrees and humid but those are against LA and Dallas so that may save us there. My guess is we average about 20k with a few of those midweek games (and maybe a few more due to weather) pulling us down.
EDIT: troutseth typed while I was looking things up so some of this is a repeat but I'll leave it. I think it is unlikely that we sell out all the games this year. Ticket prices have went up and there are going to be some issues with parking and the new location that may take some getting used to. Constricting our home schedule into 6 months means that we have some games that are going to be tough to sell out. After the opener on May 12 we follow that up with a game on Tuesday, May 15. We might get enough buzz from the opener that this game will also sell out but it is pretty close in time and on a weeknight. We have a Wednesday night game in June against TFC that will also be difficult to sell out. TFC games have historically drawn poorly and that is just a few days after the home game with FCD. In July we have one week with home games on Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday. That will be a tough stretch for ticket sales at each game. And as someone pointed out we've been stuck with a couple of afternoon games on national TV that may be problems. May 26, 1:30 pm against LAG NBCSp June 16, 4 pm against FCD ESPN2 Those are good opponents for selling tickets and they are early in the home season so those may still sell out. We also may have an issue that we haven't had to deal with at Robertson. In the past a large percentage of our attendance was day-of-game sales. If we sell out games early in the season on pre-sales we may lose some of those people later in the season because they will assume that they can't get tickets and make other plans. It will be interesting to see how that works out. I would still expect that we'll have a very high percentage of tickets sold by the end of the year but I'd be surprised if we sell out every game.
Well, they can sell out every game, but the question is, will they? To which I answer, probably not, but they will sell out enough to improve on their average attendance.
This is actually the most interesting question. Will our average go up? Our median most likely will, but each year we have had a few games above the 22k size of the new stadium including roughly 30k at the LA game. Without those bigger numbers; will we pull up our "low attendance" games enough to make it up?
Maybe some fans few up with watching the Astros flounder around will take a walk down the street instead.
first of all they are moving downtown which would bring more fans anyways, but on this occasion they are moving into a brand new stadium and they are the defending eastern conference champions.
Move to downtown? I don't buy all that. The rob is less than 10 minutes from downtown or a unsafe and dangerous 30 minute walk. Haha
They can sell out every game if the Dynamo Girls play some lingerie futbol for the halftime show. jk. I predict 20k just to be realistic.Houston as a city have hardcore sports fans and fair-weather, casual sports fans (or bandwagon jumpers). It's a large media market but not as big as LA, NY, Boston, and Chicago. It's more like Toronto for example, TFC has to compete with the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and Raptors for local media coverage. Same here for the Dynamo, they have to deal with the Texans, Astros, and Rockets to get local sports coverage.
They might sell out all of their games. I just hope that "corporations" / absentee season ticket holders dont buy the nice seats that people will see on tv.
Your new stadium looks great, your team is always in the hunt, and the supporters groups are loud. I could totally see you selling out every game, esp. if the weather cooperates.
weather as long as its not flooding/blizzard/hurricane type rain, I don't think weather is gonna stop attendance....ESPECIALLY heat
They did have a few Jewish community events. The FO recently sold some leftover tshirts from one(all proceeds went to charity) . I bought one, it has something in hebrew on and it could say "death to islam" for all I know.
