The Euro transfer market is closed. So I don't think teams can sell players even to teams out of the UEFA market. I think whomever they bring over needs to be a beast in the air. Maybe this kid, Meyer, at 6'2" has what it takes to hold his own already.
transfer windows are only for bringing IN players. players can be sold or leave a club at any time as long as the receiving club is in an open transfer window. for instance there are rumours right now of carlos tevez being sold to Anzhi in Russia because their window is still open.
Michel Salgado to the Galaxy? http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ers-look-to-offload-high-earners-6358841.html Formerly of Real Madrid and currently Blackburn, he fits the profile in that he is old enough he might consider a move for a reduced salary to play with Beckham again. If he really was in town to meet with the Galaxy, that sounds semi-serious. I think he has traditionally been an outside defender rather than a center back, but I don't know if that's true anymore.
He's a RB though, we need some CB's bruv.... I guess if he would accept a non-dp deal then what the hell.
another source....about Torres According to TVN Noticias, the L.A. Galaxy have made an offer for free agent Panama defender Ramon Torres, last with Colombian side Atletico Nacional... from what I've seen...he's very confident in the air just like Omar....and is definitely more attack minded........ http://youtu.be/mN2wMJPAQ4o interestingly, some webs list his height as 188cm which is 6' 2"............
Re: another source....about Torres I think The Daily (from the MLS site) said he was 5'11" EDIT: I also think that we need to be realistic, in that we are not going to replace Omar (the best defender in MLS last year). We are going to find someone who is adequate, and we're going to find someone in midfield who buys into the team-defending system that Bruce has instituted. If that happens, we should be fine. It looks to me like the rest of the league is getting better. All teams are getting more aggressive about trying to upgrade their talent. Bruce has done a good job this offseason, but this coming season is going to be very competitive.
Re: another source....about Torres I remember this guy from the gold cup for panama and he was pretty good. I def cosign to bring him in for a look-see.
Re: another source....about Torres Its because you've misspelled his name. It's Roman Torres. Ramon Torres is a 6'2" goalkeeper from Brazil.
Re: another source....about Torres this Roman Torres, the Panamanian defender, is listed as 1.88m (6'2") on transfermarkt.co.uk ... wiki says 5'11". http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/roman-torres/leistungsdaten-verein/spieler_74182.html so who knows.
I like him, not as good as Omar but good. We need to push AJ to right and Franklin to RM as well. AJ doesn't cut it at CB w/o Omar
Exactly. AJ may have been a little small but he def. brought a lot to the game. As long as his partner has either a little height or weight to handle the bigger strikers I believe AJ will be fine. He proved that all of last year and at the end of the year before.
Agreed. It's easy to say that Omar's dominance in the air masked AJ's deficiencies, but there's also a counter-argument. AJ's acceleration and quickness and his read of the game that make him excellent at breaking up fast developing attacks, and his tight marking that takes away space from quick attackers, directly complement Omar's weaknesses. Omar actually has good speed, but quick lateral movement is not the strength of someone with his size, he can on occasion give way too much space to fast attackers to compensate, and he's been known to get pulled out of position on occasion. AJ strengths complement Omar's weaknesses just as much as Omar's strengths complement AJ's weaknesses.
I agree He's damn good player in my book and I like him.. Don't forget we won the cup b/c of his pass....
Apparently the Galaxy have been keeping tabs on one Stephen Ireland from Aston Villa. http://www.people.co.uk/sport/footb...ston-villa-s-stephen-ireland-102039-23737213/ This would be a very interesting move ... (apologies if this has been posted earlier)
Completely agree with this. I've always said that if AJ had Omar's height I think he'd be the better CB. It's no knock on Omar who has his own positives, but I think AJ's decision-making tends to be better in the center (playing RB he gets trapped between attacking and defending - more of a sign of playing a new position than smarts). I don't want him to be working out RB this year and playing a new position unless we have two stud CBs. Right now, we don't. So AJ's staying.
He's been below par for a bit but he's started to regain form recently. I'm not sure how we can afford him unless Keane is staying at Villa. I actually like Ireland, he's a bit of a mentalist. I'd sign him just to see the house he'd build. He builds a weird house everywhere he plays, well I say house but it's more like a lair. A photographic tour of Stephen Ireland's ridiculous house
Please, please, please don't bring this psycho to our team. Talk about a locker room cancer, this guy is a prototypical diva. I would rather have so many other players than him. If he was able to be more consistent maybe he could get a sit down but not now.
he's not coming Villa paid like 8mil. pounds for him only 18 months ago so...unless we pay huge amount in transfer fees it's not happening.....
You really have no idea what you are talking about. He is not a cancer. He simply has a past of saying and doing strange things. He's actually quite a nice guy & hard worker for his club. He was linked with NYRB about a week ago through the NY Times btw. It makes me think someone in MLS is looking at him. More likely to be NY...
I was just kidding and was really talking about his tendency to put his foot in his mouth. He has an inflated idea of himself that rubs me the wrong way.
This is just a hunch, but I wonder if the fairly definitive statement from Birchall that he will not be returning, without a statement about him having signed with someone else, suggests that it was the Galaxy who pulled the offer of the table rather than him who refused to sign. If so, that might be because the Galaxy now know that they need to apply their limited remaining cap money and international slot to sign someone to fill-in for Omar and that such a signing is in the works now.
