Portland somehow claimed Charles Renken off waivers. I'm completely baffled how Renken a) wouldn't be placed in a weighted lottery, b) would be put on waivers in the first place, or c) passed by 8 teams (including CUSA, Chicago, NE and SJ who could all use some attacking help in the midfield).
And Ives is tweeting that Renken wasn't in a lottery because every other MLS team passed on him. Oh, how the mighty (or at least highly touted) have fallen...
back to WPSL, Ella Masar's first hand accoutn of her fallout with Borislaw http://blog.ellamasar.com/2012/02/no-more-silence/ remind anyone else of Hope Solo being banished/ostracized?
and 3 in a row for me... Looks like DCU alum Ryan Nelsen may be moving to Tottenham Hotspur http://www.3news.co.nz/VIDEO-Spurs-...elsen/tabid/317/articleID/241484/Default.aspx
I can't muster up the will to hate something as dirty and minor league as Chester but the Le Toux thing is funny. Lucky for the owners who only care about money, Chester fanbase is one of the least intelligent in the league.
I've always thought Nowak was a Billy Martin-type manager who would succeed for a season or two with a team before his act grew old with the players. Granted, Nowak doesn't have the personal demons that Martin did but Le Toux's comments support my suspicions about him.
"He told Dan that I needed to go to the hospital, so Dan put me in his car and said we were going to the local hospital. Long story short, we never made it to the hospital. He took me to dinner with his “boys” and then I was with him for 2 more days until we met up with the girls in Atlantic City." Uh, is it just me or does this paragraph hint at some very untoward behavior by Borislow?
I come in peace. I want to ask you guys, does any of this from Nowak surprise you? How did things go with the club in his third season with DCU?
Honestly? Except for his falling out with Freddy Adu (which is why I was *so* surprised when Philly picked him up), and that absurd "Send him to hospital" thing in the preseason, I can't remember any issues with Nowak while he was here. Maybe our post-2007 form has clouded my memory; but I don't recall anything else.
I've heard that at least one prominent veteran from the 2004 championship team did not enjoy playing for him. I do expect that Nowak's disciplinarian regime works better with younger players.
I know you quoted the original context, but reading this between questions about Nowak's relationship with the team as a manager had me going...
Surprise? no. Nowak was always a hard-ass. But DC United was winning. They had won the MLS Cup under and in his third year they won the Supporter's Shield. Winning papers over a lot. But I never remember any issues similar to what Le Toux described; only the whole Adu situation comes close, and that was more than just Nowak. That said when I read what Le Toux said (reading into the article - Le Toux's leaving Bolton early paints PU in a bad light and Nowak and the FO could be displeased by that); I wasn't surprised.
^^^this don't know if it is his act growing old or his players wearing out, but I think the Nowak we know is a 1 or 2 season manager at best
wow, really great game today at the mestalla between Barca and Valencia, Copa del Rey semis, 1st leg catch the replay on espn3 nice to see a balls-out game where afterwards all the players are shaking hands
They might be shits up in Chester, but LeToux broke down when he was saying good bye to the fans at Kildare's. It's on YouTube [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHeYYDGVekU]LeToux' Goodbye to Philly Fans[/ame] but Crossing Broad rotated it so it's watchable. Wish we could send a player off like this. Thx, Jay!
