the french league is very fast, and the accident has taken cd9's power+speed and therefore his edge. i am not surprised by the fact that he isn't in the squad - in spite of the nice things they might say about him.
Media is five guys? Back then you had Wahl, Goff, Straus, Ives, Carlisle, Wynalda, Lalas, Harkes, MLSSoccer crew, etc. You're delusional if you think it was about a fan response on BigSoccer.
It's very true. Perhaps they need to start moderating their comments section. I scroll through it from time to time bc it's easier to navigate than BS but I do have to skip through some serious idiocy.
I seem to recall Grahme Jones penning a column decrying the US team as being worse than the 1994 team after its loss to Brazil.
Lots of national media, not normally known for covering soccer, were watching USA team on ESPN and also weighed in with their less-than-average knowledge.
I don't see Charlie ever again playing in a truly competitive league. Similarly, his prospects for a return to the USMNT are just about nil. The CD9 ship has sailed. Better for U.S. soccer fans to focus more on new up and comers.
Why do we as fans need to "focus" on other players? Can't we hope he gets back to where he was while also hoping "new up and comers" dazzle as well? Even if his prospects with the US team have gone to nil (i'm not convinced they have) what difference does it make in the grand scheme of things if we support him?
Often, people here seem to be fine with randomly joining a thread just to bring a player down. Usually it's to feel a sense of accomplishment ("I told you so!"). It's a bit disheartening, really, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
This is what YA should be, rooting all our players forward - not necessarily with equal interest/fervor, and sometimes critically, but always hoping for the best.
This is closer to what BS threads often become - perhaps bringing someone else down is a natural human impulse. Such impulses are best resisted, however, and there's no reason not to support CD now as much as we ever did.
Because it's really hard to troll a couple dozen threads at once. It'd be much easier if there less threads to worry about getting lulz from. /sarcasm I wouldn't take his opinion seriously anyway. He supports Everton AND Villa, yet his foe is Chelsea. I think that says quite a bit about his viewpoint.
and yet Sochaux are apparently at least contemplating the idea of keeping him around and paying his salary for the next 5 months rather than let him go out on loan. Odd.
Having read all the posts here over the years mercilessly bashing Bob Bradley; bashing Altidore; bashing Michael Bradley and other USMNT players, I'm pretty surprised at these wimpy retorts at what was a pretty benign comment. Having lived in Madrid as a kid, I grew up a Real Madrid fan. They lost me when they went the Galacticos route. I'll take the scrappy team that plays with heart (Everton) over the teams that buy their way to the top every day. The Chelseas and Real Madrids of the world can have their fair weather fans. If I really thought CD could help Everton, I'd be writing David Moyes myself. CD can't. If he wasn't worth an MLS investment, he is not going to cut it in the EPL. Others here realize this and have posted accordingly. My comments are pragmatic and realistc. And they are consistent with others expressed here. Their is disappointment with CD for various reasons but with one recurring theme: repeated poor decision making. Some criticisms on this thread are expressed in very harsh terms. I've left those out. I certainly do not wish CD ill, but I am realistic.
Hi, this isn't the US national team forum, and we'd appreciate if you didn't bring those feuds into Yanks Abroad. Also, popping into the forum to declare to the world that Davies is "done" with the national team is both off-topic and unconstructively, needlessly provocative. Thanks.
I don't think Charlie is done with USMNT as he's only 25. But I think another year of playing in MLS would have helped him, whether it was with DCU or someone else. He got in 27 games while at DCU. Is he going to see anywhere near that number from now til the end of the season? Games is what he needs to get his game back to the highest level and to show USMNT coaches that his game is good enough for highest level. I think MLS was where he would have gotten most games.
Yes, that's because, of the two players, Davies has obviously demonstrated the better form during the last two years. Right? No, that can't be it. Hmmm.... I know! It's because Davies survived a horrific car crash, therefore god is clearly on his side; hence, he would be a "godsend"!! Brilliant!
