Good find. He has eight goals thus far. He appears to be a short, speedy type player from the few articles I can find. I like added speed to our offense and a player who is in red hot form for his current team. Let's see how he does during his trial. BlackandRedUnited.com claims he's a striker, but I keep reading he's a midfielder. Perhaps a versatile player? In terms of added support, there are a fair number of Jamaicans in the area. I hope they would decide to come out and support a Reggae Boy! The more the merrier.
They weren't totally done, but they got a lot weaker in a hurry. And they did have to scramble to pick up points wherever they could while he was gone. Dallas got a huge dose of luck in that Brek Shea made The Leap in the year Ferreira went down, but as far as contending for anything they were pretty much done at that point. If DeRo was out, it would be a punch in the gut. We'd probably have to hope that Boscovic (I'm considering him the X-factor, whatever we get from him is a bonus. . . unless DeRo got hurt, then we'd actually need him) was a good enough creator that he + Pontius + Najar would be a decent if un-special offense. But I think most teams in the league are in that kind of position.
If he's a striker with pace how is in form, then I'm not worried about his height. DCU needs a past forward to create space for Dero and the midfielders in the attacking third. He sounds promising. Heard anything about a left back?.......
Josh Lambo (gk) and Sebastian Svard (dm/rb) are the newest trialists. Zayner Rodriguez, Rozeboom, Dystra, Richter, and c'debaca all made the cut from the DC camp.
all details from DCU press release So only 2 of the 3 Supplemental Draft picks are making it to Florida as Matthew Kuhn was released from his trial (if he was ever with the team). 3 more trialists are joining the team in Florida: Alanzo Adlam (F) 22-year old Adlam most recently played with Portmore United of Jamaica's top flight. He has represented the Jamaica Men's National Team at both the U-20 and U-23 level. Josh Lambo (GK) 21-year old Josh Lambo was recently waived by FC Dallas after four seasons with the Western Conference club. He was originally drafted by Dallas in the first round (8th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. Lambo has played for the U.S. Men's National Team at various youth levels. Sebastian Svard (M) A midfielder from Denmark, Svard began his club career with Arsenal. The 29-year old did not make any first team appearances for the Gunners and was loaned out to four teams (FC Copenhagen, Stoke City, Brondby and Vitoria Setubal) over six years. In 2006, he joined Borussia Monchegladbach, where he made 43 appearances. Most recently, Svard was with Roda JC of the Eredivise. Lambo arrived in DC Sunday and will travel with the team Monday, while Adlam and Svard are set to meet the team in Florida Monday afternoon. Information about Fl friendlies in the link as well.
Svard seems like an intriguing proposition. Not so much for the Arsenal connection, but the fact that he made a fair number of appearances in the German and Dutch top flights. Could be a solid if unspectacular player.
My one and only concern about "in form" is it means he'll come to us after playing half a season. Those players tend to burn out toward the end due to too many games. Ben will have to sort out his fatigue. That's even if he's starting quality. I've heard nothing about a promising left back except we're looking for a foreign talent to take that space. The same with a striker, who is said to be from Europe. Which leads me to believe that this guy would be utilizing more as a Dane Richards, attacking winger.
Seems intriguing. His stats aren't exciting - only one goal in his career which makes him sound more defensive. If that's the case, it makes more sense than relying on Kitchen all season. (Edit: Just found an article claiming he is a defensive midfielder) He only made 12 appearances for his latest club, Roda, in two years; only six last season. In those six appearances, he had two yellow cards. Sounds like an enforcer Don't like that he doesn't play often at his age. I like a good Nordic enforcer, especially with such a cool name. "Sebastian, Sebastian, He'll take the SVARD to you!" At least it sounds like sword to me... Makes me think we'll be playing (hypothetically): ----------Svard--Kitchen--------- Najar---------DeRo----------Pontius -------------Maicon-------------- Which is what I guessed at the end of the season and is a formation that suits us best. (old picture)
he looks quite ... uh ... robust? rubenesque? and from other pics i've seen he is even more .... uh .... husky? these days.
Glad to see that Ryan Richter was essentially the only non-drafted player to stick from the group of 14. Saw a glimpse of some real potential during the United-Union reserve match last summer.
And to think da Fonte's mom assured us earlier in this thread that he is the greatest player since David Hayes! Obviously Olsen let a diamond slip from his grasp ...
I wouldnt expect Maicon to be that lone starting striker. He did that with FC Dallas & it was a disaster. Its probably more likely to see Danny Cruz start at right mid & have Pontius up top. I see Maicon as the capable & dependable back up to the starter. Juz sayin. But, on topic, Svard should be signed. He would be the perfect guy to help bring Kitchen along in the midfield.
Then Najar would be on the left and it seems a shame to waste that right foot of his, his service really came around nicely last year.
Having a left winger who can cut inside and take a shot with his right foot can be extremely usefull when playing with a loan striker up top. As we know, andy can score from distance. I saw an article suggesting that Svard went on trial with the Revs in september, anyone know if that actually happened? http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/ex-arsenal-stoke-midfielder-svard-leave-roda-mls-1882761
He also went on trial with San Jose last year as well I believe. Either he has no european options (doubtful) or he is really interested in playing in the states.
here's a thread from the NE forum: www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1819536 apparently he wasn't free of his contract until Dec.
Pontius can already do that, and I don't think Pontius is lone striker material. If Pontius can't play for whatever reason then I think it is a decent option to have Najar there. I'm beginning to come around to a 4-5-1, especially if United can secure another striker. A dedicated DM behind or along side Kitchen will let him play without the mental burden and responsibilities a lone DM would have, he could just do what comes naturally. McDonald is an option in that role if United gets a CB. I would feel a lot better about the strength up the middle in this scheme. Could Kitchen be what Dax McCarty couldn't? I'm intrigued.
Wasnt the whole point of dumping Simms because we could free up salary cap and also let Kitchen move to his more natural role? Why are we bringing an expensive European option at defensive midfield into the fold? Seems stupid IMO. A 4-5-1 doesnt make sense with our personal. We don't have a target striker to hold up play until the midfield can get involved. A 4-4-2 is mostly what Olsen played last year and it fits DeRo's style really well, just letting him have free reign behind the striker up top.
Who said he would be expensive? Doesn't strike me as particularly expensive. I wonder if Svard could also play CB if necessary... If so, he could be a solid backup at both spots or spot starter. The idea is to put kitchen in the DM role, but have some flexibility (especially when Kitchen is @ the Olympic qualifying and hopefully the actual Olympics too).
Full name: Sebastian Steve Qvacoe Cann-Svärd apparently a half Ghanaian-half Swedish Dane. I'm so good at wikipedia research.
