Do you think there would be any interest to bring back the Warthogs. I loved watching the Warthogs play. Since MLS is in town, do you think it would be possible to have two pro teams in town?

Ryan would love to have a team in Washington (quite frankly anywhere for that matter). If there was an owner available, you can definitely bet he'd put one there.

It was awesome seeing some of the Warthogs games on HTS(now Comcast). Cabral would throw his bandana into the crowd after every goal he scored.

I have to admit....I had a special place for the Warthogs. I personally would love to see them back. Even with those unis with the sublimated warthog pattern....i thought those were kinda cool

Can one of you geniuses please answer me this. Why would the Honorable Mr. Edwin F. Hale allow an MISL team to invade an area that he has territorial rights over. I don't think there should be a team in DC. The cities are way too close and Mr. Hale is way to smart.

    Try again.

Because Mr. Hale has done such a great job of building a loyal fan base that a team in Washington, DC would not hurt his attendance and in fact may help. If DC can support a team, the close proximity of the two would create a geographic rivalry whereby fans from both the Baltimore and DC franchises could easily attend road games in each other's arenas.

It could probably do ok, if there were enough dates available at the Verizon Center. Even though it's still "soccer", the leagues have almost totally different fanbases. I liked the Warthogs back in the day because
    1) there was no "real" soccer to go to in DC at the time
    2) it was very cheap and fun for the little kids, especially those without attention spans

MLS isn't as kid-friendly on the wallet as the (I guess it was CISL) indoor league was, they almost gave kids tix away, it was nice.
Maybe Dante Washington could still play :)

I remember getting Free Tix for games all the time. I think we went to like 4 games in a row for free.

No mention of "Scorin" Gorin Hunjak (sp?)

I also got to play a tournament on the field before a game at CapCenter/USAir Arena back then. Pretty cool moment back then

Wow, what a dumb response! And "Honorable(?)," I did not know he was a judge.

First off, a team in D.C. would be attracting more of a Virginia or southern Maryland type crowd. It may take a few fans away that are considerably down south of Baltimore (like me). However, it will get more fans into the game itself. Fans that might not have ever heard of indoor soccer, would go up to Baltimore to cheer on D.C. whenever they played one another.

If it wasn't for me getting interested into indoor soccer through the Warthogs, I probably wouldn't have ever attended a single Blast game. I wasn't the only one who made the move either.

I think that all a team in D.C. could do would be support the Blast.

Haha, well this was the first time I did an official search of this forum. This was one of a few results that popped up when I searched "Washington Warthogs." I've gone back before by going back a few pages, but never by a search.

This is kind of fun. Maybe I should make this a weekly habbit of pulling up old posts!

Didn't he "own" the Orlando Sharks for a bit? I still laugh when on that one broadcast Dart McCarthy said "Ching chong China."

Would be great to have a team in DC. Since it isn't a league where tv revenue or viewing regions matters the proximity isn't an issue. Since Baltimore is fed by its outlying suburbs in the same way that DC is it would be fine, IMO. I would rather see them at the Armory though. Too hard to get dates at Verizon. I keep hoping, probably without any real chance of it happening, that the league will try to grow regionally. I know it all depends on where someone with money wants to put a team but it would be great for competition and travel costs for the Blast to have rival teams in Philly, Harrisburg, DC, Richmond and Pittsburgh.

Raj Kalra and Sham Maharaj were not the same person.

Kalra pulled one over on the MISL and acquired the Sockers with no money down (and, as it turned out, no money ever) in 2004-2005.

Sham Maharaj owned the Orlando Sharks for their one season.

i think the dc armory or the patriot center would be both great place to have a team and would not cost as much and would have more dates free

I'd go if they were to play there. I just don't see how it would be configured for indoor soccer. Doesn't look like a lot of seats (I could be underguessing though)...

Maybe $16 general admission? & $12 tickets for season ticket holders.

Not that the DC Armor ever needed that many seats.

Hmm, I'll have to take another look at it. I'm not that great of a visualizer so I cant really see it configured for indoor soccer.

There once was going to be a Regional Indoor Soccer League (it never hit the ground, it was a scam to get sponsorship). Anyway, they mentioned a team in D.C. called the Mavericks that were set to play in the Armory, so the place has been considered.

Yeah, they were a flop, weren't they?

I would go see a game there that place looks cool and cheesy as hell..............Bring back the original Warthog name and logo also. I loved that logo. I still have a hat but my dog chewed the strap off the back.

If you can get a 200 x 85 floor in there, you can do it. Few feet extra on one side for benches, etc.

And if you can't get a 200 x 85 foot floor in there, you STILL can do it...

Canton Civic Center (maybe 175 ft?)

    Chicago Stadium (185 ft)

Dayton Convention Center (Exhibit Hall 102 claims to be 264 x 178, including the seating, benches, aisles, goals, etc) -- if EVER there was a reason to consider changing the rules to permanent four-on-four... oh, my...
