Hi FC Dallas fans. I'm not sure if you realize this (I didn't), but Dallas had a rather successful semi-pro (or maybe completely amateur team?) from 1984 to 1992. This team existed under a variety of names, including the ones I listed above. They competed in the Lone Star Soccer Alliance, a pretty significant league for its time (1987-1992) that it seems like everyone's forgotten. This team also won national amateur championships in 1984 and 1988, and participated in several US Open Cups. I'm trying to build a US soccer historical database, and the LSSA and related teams are pretty much completely unexplored territory. So my question is: Does anybody have any information whatsoever about these teams? P.S. In 1989 (at least), this team was known as FC Dallas. That makes this post relevant, right?
Dick Hall coached the Dallas Express. They played in the Lone Star Soccer Alliance and played just off main street near Hwy 45 in Richardson, in an old wooden stadium. I don't believe the Mean Green played in the LSSA. They came before that league as I recall... They had quite a few University of North Texas players involved which is where the name came from. Back then, Mean Green was a nickname of the Univ of North Texas along with Eagles (which was the official one).
Do you mean 75 (or is there a 45 in Richardson I'm unaware of?) Was it Greenville Avenue Stadium, on the West side of Greenville just south of Main (still standing)? You're right, according to Wikipedia, the Mean Green changed their name to the Express before joining the LSSA. Any idea how to get in touch with Coach Hall?
I was thinking 75 & 45 merged through Dallas & suburbs north of Dallas. But for sure, yes 75. Yes, Greenville Stadium and I don't know if it is still standing (but I doubt it). I don't know Dick Hall's phone number.
Greenville Avenue Stadium is still standing (with small aluminum bleachers on one side). It is owned by Richardson ISD and, when I went through RISD in the late 90s, it was used mainly for middle school and JV football/soccer. I think several smaller private schools in the area also play games there occasionally.
