Would you guys be up for getting Agudelo if he still wants to play in MLS? The cows are stockpiling forwards and we know they don't use their bench unless your name is Ballouchy.
What is the mad desire to draft as many players as possible? Last year we had one of the youngest squads in the league and fielded one of the youngest ever, I believe. I don't think getting younger is going to help this club very much.
My sources tell me that in a surprise move, the first round draft pick is going to be given to Qatar. (Sorry, watching this on espn3 is giving me flashbacks)
Well, Townsend is gone. I hope Ethan Finlay is still around when we pick. With SJ's pick, Finlay is still there. Will DC select him? Edit: Welcome, Nick DeLeon!
Nick DeLeon it is.. Defense, forward and outside midfielder is where this team needed help and they got a player who is more than capable of playing on the left side of midfield opposite Najar. This of course gives you the opportunity to move Pontius up top either with DeRo or in combination with a Player To Be Named Later. Would have like to have seen Townsend fall to United but so be it.
I also thought it was funny how both Lalas and Twellman basically killed DeLeon based on him getting injured, not being in shape and being a general disappointment at the Combine. As if the Combine makes or breaks players. Yes, the Combine can help individuals who were not highly thought of, but in DeLeon's case, he was highly thought of before the Combine based on his play on the field. 3 games in pickup fashion in front of MLS coaching staffs don't exactly bring forth polished diamonds. Nice pick for United
The charge was later dropped, but it should be noted that last spring Nick DeLeon was among a group of Louisville athletes, mostly soccer players, arrested on marijuana trafficking charges. http://www.wlky.com/r/27612949/detail.html
So we have 19 players now? Here's a highlight video I found of Nick from 2010. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gdmGJECyKk"]Nick DeLeon Highlights - YouTube[/ame]
I'm wondering if we have an international forward waiting in the wings since we didn't go after Townsend or Finlay?
Here's what Ives wrote about DeLeon, when he had RSL picking him 17th in a mock draft. In a December mock draft, JSF had him going 8th to Portland and described him as:
Ives likes the pick. Seems to be predicting what we've been saying on here. This pick probably means Pontius is moving up top. I wouldn't be surprised to see DeRo up there too. Not your stereotypical small quick forward/big lumbering forward combination, but could be quite dynamic.
Entrepreneurial and industrious. I like it. I wasn't paying attention; which is his injury, hamstring, hernia, or concussion?
Making a check-in here to say that, at the Maryland-Louisville NCAA tourney game this year, DeLeon was far and away the best player on the field. My immediate thought at that time was that the kid has the perfect set of traits to be an outstanding MLS player. He's technically skilled, thinks the game, works extremely hard, and has the strength to deal with hackfest MLS defenders. I'm not a draftnik like JSF - I had no idea who DeLeon was before that match and went to the game solely to cheer on the Terps - but he very much had my attention after that. Obviously I have no idea what his personality is like, but solely based on what I saw on the field I'm excited about this pick.
