I just moved to Puyallup from Jacksonville, FL and am stoked to get tickets for the sounders this year as I've been following them since they joined mls. My question is - where should I sit? Should I start with season tickets, or should I get individual tickets in different sections so that I know what they're all like? Also, I have a family, so is there a more "family friendly" section than others? Thanks!
The only real options for season tickets at this point will be in the Hawks Nest or in the upper bowl. Most other sections are sold to returning season ticket holders. The "family sections" are sections 100, 101 and 102 I believe. Those have been the family sections in the past. They are also where they put Portland and Vancouver fans last season, so they may have moved the families elsewhere. Single tickets will be available mainly through the secondary market. So plan on paying higher prices at Stub-Hub or through other ticket brokers. You can find tix on gamdays from scalpers, but they are not reliable.
I've been to CLink on a few different occasions and each time sat in a different section and in fact different levels and honestly there isn't a bad seat in the house. If I were you I'd spend slightly more and get tickets in different sections until you find one you like (unless you plan on going to most or all home games that might get pricey). All I can say is, you'll have fun no matter where you sit. Although as mentioned above, if you have kids you might not want seats in the lower bowl, everyone stands the entire game.
I'd been moving around the stadium the fist coupld years & Ironhorsewayne is right, there really isn't a bad seat in the place (for adults) for family friendly i would just avoid the brougham end where the ECS stands, sings & waves flags, it gets a lil rowdy during a pogo, and there is plenty of profanity. that said, there are several ECS members that do bring their children and have a blast. season tickets for 2012 will be difficult at this point, but give a rep a call & see what they can do for you
So... the first thing to keep in mind is that all the 100-level sections stand the entire game, except for Maaaaybe the north end, I think it varies a bit. In the 200-level sections, people have to sit in the midfield sections (basically between the 18-yard boxes). I think in the 300-level, pretty much everyone sits. The north end is more family friendly, and the south end is not. Midfield is more benign also, but the seats are more expensive. Some sections also have all-inclusive eating built in to the price of tickets... Some people like this, and some people prefer cheaper tickets.
Beyond the official family sections, I have seen plenty of families in the club seats in the north east end of the stadium as well. The only downside there is that the away support sits in 204 ( or above that when Portland and Vancouver come to town) and sometimes they can be less than family friendly (especially the Portland and Vancouver fans) The club seats on the West side might be better. The team ha said that had something like a 92% rate of repurchase from Season ticket holders, which means there is likely a good 5% of the spots still open to be filled by waiting list folks. You might be able to get STH seats if you try, and at the least, you can get on the waiting list and do individual game tickets this year while waiting.
The club section is a sitting section. Good for kids especially those who are around 4 feet. It's more expensive than the lower sections though. However, since the SoundersFC FO supports free speech, there is a chance that you will see some younger teens shouting the YSA chant, and they (including their parents) enjoy doing it. According to my acct manager, I heard that some row M are still available, but it still depends on how big is your family.
A lot of it depends on the age of the kids. I had seats against the rail last year in 307, but I was nervous taking my three year-old, as the rail is not terribly high and I worried that he might pitch over the side, as he can be somewhat exuberant. Toward the end of the season I took him to two games, and I need not have worried; in each case, he took one look at the staircase down to the seats, and it spooked him so badly that we never made it to our seats in either game. This year we've moved to a pair of seats in 211, which I expect will be very good. We had a lot of families up in 307 with kids older than mine. That was great when there was food included in the price of the ticket, because they would gorge themselves with unlimited hot dogs and nachos. I can understand why that ended, and I wonder if some of those families may try to move lower as well.
Welcome to Washington! A great place for families ( esp. ones with teenage boys) is the all inclusive section up on the 300 level. All the pop, hot dogs and popcorn you can eat and some excellent sightlines ( and you get to sit, which is nice sometimes ).
Thanks guys! A quick question: If I plan to go to 5-10 games this year, what would the prices of the tickets be per game (compared to the season rate - ie would I pay double, triple) and would those be mostly through people selling off their season tix or from at large tix from the sounders? Thanks
It depends on who the opponent is and whether the person selling the ticket is an inaugural season ticket holder. Face value for inaugural ST is significantly lower than ST from later seasons, so they can often be gotten for less than single game tickets. Also, tickets against teams like LA, Portland, Vancouver, DCU are generally more expensive than tickets against the other teams, while NER, Chivas, and San Jose tend to be less expensive. If you've got young kids, you might consider bringing collapsible footstools to the games. A lot of parents let their kids stand on the seats, but I've seen the seats fold up on the kids, so that probably isn't the best of ideas. I've seen something like this work fairly well:
The upper decks are not all inclusive anymore. Just the northend and then the Club seats with their restaurant All inclusive. Northend is all sold out.
A few shots from various sections to give you an idea what some of the views are like: Section 214 Section 323 Section 334 Section 119 Section 117 Section 232 Section 329 Section 301 (Row EE)
there will be partial season ticket packages available closer to march i think. remember that your enemies are Portland and Vancouver
I'll believe that once these teams actually start threatening to lead the west. In the meantime don't kid yourself, LA is the real enemy.
Since you're in Puyallup now, I have to suggest going to see away games at the Twisted Kilt downtown. the local ECS folks head down there and it's the best soccer bar until you get to Doyle's. Hell of a move by the way.
Well, I don't like the idea especially for 6/7 yr olds. But still, I haven't seen somebody do this at the lower section so my opinion wont matter. I think having them watch the game at their comfort is important. If they don't feel comfortable, it's difficult the watch the game especially if you intend to watch at full 90. This is why I recommend the club section. If you're lucky, you could sit beside STH's with kids almost similar ages and they could socialize. And if you are much luckier, these STH kids might convince your kids to watch/enjoy the game. Edit: I also suggest bringing one of this
I'd rather see them twice at home than twice in their house. Schedule should be coming out soon, but March is still so far away. Sigh.
Someone has been looking at the schedule. how about the rest of the teams? Which Eastern conference teams don't make it to Seattle this season?
