Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET Exactly. For some people, I guess its not enough just winning the best club competition in the world, in which the BEST teams play in the competition, but apparently you gotta beat a big team in each round along the way. No matter who you beat, be it Barca or APOEL, as long as you win the competition, that's all that matters. And for those who downplay a team winning it due to an "easy route" to the final, they're just bitter. If we won it by playing Genk in the round of 16, Basel in the quarters, PSV in the semis, and Leverkusen in the final, there wouldn't be an asterisk next to our name that says "beat above^^^ shitty teams to win the competition."
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET The same posters who are calling for Bayern to have a tough route to the final are applauding ManU for making the final several times in the past few years, even though ManU has consistently had an excessively easy path. I will take the easy path every time. Wishing for otherwise is stupid.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET Ex********ingactly. You nailed it. If you were to complain about another team e.g Arsenal or Man Utd having easy rides they would be the ones to tell you that it doesnt matter the winning the trophy is all that counts
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET I'll take Zenit, please. We have a score to settle...
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET It's a preference and a way for the team to prove itself against the best, nothing wrong with that. If you truly believe your team to be good enough then you must also have faith against them coming up against the best when it matters. I think Bayern this year can get past Milan, regardless of the historical precedent.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET yes but sometimes even luck can interfere or one mistake so there is no need to play Milan when we can play some lesser opponent. Last year most of the fans wanted Inter and we all thought we could get past them but shit happened and we were out and we could have played against Copenhagen instead
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET Right but you also need luck to win, it works both ways, so in the end its not a decisive factor alone. Last year we didn't have bad luck against Inter, we screwed ourselves over by being complacent and allowing them to beat us.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET Rationally, your comment makes much sense. But as a fan, these games are always super exciting and it's an incredible feeling when Bayern wins them. But yeah, I wouldn't mind facing teams of either extremes when it comes to quality.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET ^^ I'd rather the excitement and anticipation of MY teama hosting the Finale over a 'great sporting event' earlier on.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET I can see the merits in the "beating the best" argument, but if you win the entire thing it really doesn't matter how you got there. If we can afford to not have to put our foot to the floor in a couple of our games en route, so much the better. I'd rather the big sides take each other out and - here's the big thing - run each other into the ground. A series of big games looks all well and good but it is more likely to lead to injuries and exhaustion - things that are best avoided. Play less taxing games, and you are more likely to be fresher for the tougher challenges.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET good luck to bayer ... a big task ahead of them..
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET Two interesting pairs - Milan - Arsenal and Napoli - Chelsea, others are just boring.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET Stuttgard almost beat Barca. For the 1/4 finals i want Lyon/Apoel , Benfica/Zenit or Inter/Marseille.
Re: Champions League Round of 16 Draw 16.12.11 1200 CET best draw in years. BEST IN YEARS, but I really hope one the spanish giants piss themselves and fail to win.
On paper the weakest, but they did kick out ManU, and they'll be more motivated against a team from the 'big canton' than another big team I think.
