Nice. When an 11-year DCU vet is retiring maybe the "if you don't have anything nice to say..." policy might be the most appropriate one. Tino is a class guy. You less so.
In the same boat his contract option was not picked up, he went into the entry draft list, he opted out of going into the draft (same as Tino because he didn't want more money from another team) and now Goff is saying he's expecting Morsink to re-sign with the club for less money. The draft is simply a free-agent mechanism to give some leverage and freedom to players. If they don't want it, they don't need it. There's no reason Santino couldn't do the same thing as Morsink, except that apparently the club has told him they don't want him at any price. Which as I've said before, I find that perplexing, but whatever. In particular, since from all we can tell, he literally gave his heart to the club at least as much as any other player ever has, and (perhaps this is the romantically notioned sports fan side of me) part of his decisions is based on the fact that he couldn't give it again to another team. Regardless of your opinion of his presence in the squad, that deserves respect in my opinion.
"Used to acknowledge that something is not literally true but is used for emphasis or to express strong feeling." Meaning it's not the usual player lip-service.
PR, I guess better late than never. But it shows how DC United has slipped through the years. I understand that it is a business, but how come this does not apply to KP & DK?
I know that Doug Hicks is now a Vice President with the team, but as far as I can tell he wasn't around when Tino started. I agree that it is rather perplexing to have Hicks be the author of the piece and not Kevin Payne, who is largely responsible for Quaranta's success.
doug's been with United over 10 years and is actually very close to Tino personally. i don't know why he wouldn't write that, that's his job, not the CEOs.
Perhaps he just wants to get his A license and coach young people and mentor young people and be a good dad. He will not make 100k but he also will not have to travel and be away from his support. Good luck Tino.
I have a feeling that concussion that took out a large chunk of his season played a large part in making this decision...
