Sammy Sounder is gone for good. The only Sammy these days is Ochoa. (Weird note, there was a contest to name the mascot back in the day and my Sister was one of the winners. She got a signed team soccer ball and got to go out on the field.)
The Miami Seaquarium might be looking for a new orca soon. Maybe you should hit them up? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2016910986_orcasuit02m.html
Dude, what a bummer! While Drew Carey is sitting at home counting his cash and eating tuna littered with dolphin parts, Sammy the Orca, a true symbol of the Sounders franchise that fought for you guys during the turbulent times in the A-League, sits at home, unemployed! What has this country come to?? Sammy Sounder to MLS, NOW!!!
I'm so tired of this ridiculous sense of entitlement that the younger generation has. Here's a news flash: you have to WORK HARD to be successful, you can't just sit around waiting for comrade OBAMA to give you an unearned handout. Lazy ass hipsters and marine mammals are what's wrong with this country, seriously.
What the hell are you guys smoking up there? This is a discussion about getting the team a mascot, not a political debate. If fact, seeing as we had the greatest country in the world until you guys systematically screwed the pooch with it and left us with nothing but charred remains, without even handing us the courtesy of your own deaths so that you can keep stealing my taxes... all I really want to hear from your generation are apologies. Hard Work? What did years of hard work at the lower levels do for Sammy Sounder other then get him laid off? Sammy probably influenced thousands of kids to become interested in the Sounders, and that's the gratitude he gets? You can't even use race as an issue, b/c Sammy is Black! Your whole argument is as laughable as it is hypocritical and I for one, will not sit idly bye watching you fat cats drop your condescending tirades upon our generation when we all know where the fault really lies... Afterall, WE are the ones bringing soccer to the forefront in this country... you guys failed miserably! We shall not be silenced, we shall overcome! SAMMY SOUNDER for GOVERNOR!
We understand and appreciate your concerns. We think it is safe to say that there are no bigger fans of Sammy than our organization. However, as a growing organization, hard decisions have to be made and one of those hard decisions was that Sammy just didn't have a role in the direction that our organization was headed. If, at some later date, we feel that an orca mascot is needed, Sammy is the first porpoise that we will contact. We thank Sammy for his years of service and wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavours.
Sammy, you were spotted at SeaWolves FC matches last summer. http://goalwa.wordpress.com/2011/06...residency-into-third-place-after-2-1-victory/
That was a one-off and I need to provide for the pod whenever I can. I was hoping to get my buddy, the Taco Time cactus, a gig there too, but they only wanted me.
Hey now. Pre-season starts in only a month. Then we can stop talking about a person dressed up like a cartoon orca and start trying to identify who "The Trialist" is based on a grainy photo of his back and start bashing the FO fir not bringing in an upgrade for X player.
Hey, the whale has to eat, doesn't he? It is not like the Sounders are putting mackerel on the table. I still think letting Sammy go was a big mistake by the Sounders. You guys have great players and great fans, but without a symbol to channel and unite that energy, it might all go astray.
*snort* Mackerel?? Puh-lease. If Sammy were getting paid in mackerel he'd still be with the Sounders. Unfortunately, Sammy's head got to big and he wanted salmon flown in from Alaska. It's a common story in soccer. A young, talented orca forgets that it is about the fans and starts to think it is all about him, then starts to lose interest in performing as the pay fails to meet his expectations. Finally, the team tires of the lax performances and is forced to let him go. Several years later he is found struggling in the lower divisions trying to recapture his previous glory and getting paid a fraction of what he was getting paid at his previous team.
I know orcas are commonly referred to as "killer whales". However, orcas are of the dolphin family, not whale family. Cripes, it's much too long before the season starts.
The heck, you say. Sad, sad story, though I suppose a growing Orca has to make enough sand dollars to support a growing pod. Hopefully something can be done to resolve this. Sammy would have been one of the better mascots in MLS and could have followed in a proud line of championship winning Orca.
No really its true. I however thought this thread lacked porpoise as indeed the seawolf which is called a whale while being of the dolphin line is indeed not a porpoise, nor for that matter a canine.
