Surely they'll factor in the effect putting sports direct on the shirt would have on replica sales. Surely.....

Also, the home shirts need a name and number on the back to be not 'weird looking' it seems. But that ups the cost...

But I don't have a stripes jersey yet.

    Sigh. Decisions.

They don't make the jerseys without the number panel? Is this a recent development since they started puttint the big box on the jersey? Because all of mine have just pattern, granted I have one home and 2 away jerseys.

    Sucks.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Hmm. The ones I was seeing that had a back image had the blank number panel. I'll search around more.

I've never seen a home jersey without the back number panel even if it's blank. Probably so they can cut costs and use all the same jerseys and iron on player info if you want a name and number.

Seems Nike has stepped up and is willing to meet Cashley's £10 million a year asking price. I guess since Rebook has an arena Nike wants on too.

On another rumor note, seems the Mirror is reporting Chelski coming in with a £20 mllion bid for Tiote in January. If true he's gone. CAshley does not walk away from money like that.

Wasn't it mplsTOON on these very boards who said that Nike would never be our shirt manufacturer never mind our sponsor....?

Haven't seen him around in a while though, maybe he knows something about this.

Not sure about Chelsea being in for Tiote, don't they have Essien coming back from his injury about then? Throw in the ACN and it seems pointless. Plus I don't think he's good enough for Chelsea.

He's invaluable for third-place Newcastle but not good enough for fourth-place Chelsea? :D

It is out of character for Nike to sponsor a whole arena or a whole team. A shirt or equipment sponsorship gives them a greater opportunity to convey their brand message of creating great things that enable athletes to become greater. I guess one could really stretch it and say that yes the individuals are competing in an arena therefore it works,...and stranger things have happened. If the deal is for Nike to be the eventual kit maker, shirt sponsor and gets the arena naming rights in the interim until the kit and shirt sponsorship are available then it would make perfect sense.

So I would be pleasantly surprised, and quite chuffed, if Nike did do all of the above. Although from a manufacturing standpoint, due to a roughly 90 day lead time from production start to delivery to customer for apparel in quantity of which 21 days is devoted to shipment alone, Orders for January 2012 would have to have been produced in September. So if Nike would become the sponsor, they would need to allow for time for design and production of the whole kit and we wouldn't see them until late in the season earliest. And no Nike wouldn't put a swoosh on a Puma shirt in the interim, nor would Puma allow it.

I never said Nike wouldn't make shirts for the Toon, I said I'd be worried that if they did they would try and modernize them like they tried to do with Juventus's classic black and white striped kit. But now that Nike Football has quite a bit of credibility, they dont treat heritage as a throwback to be tossed out for the new, it's something to be built upon while moving forward.

I have reached out to a contact who would have more insight on this and it was news to him. We both felt this was a fishing expedition to build hype around getting a new kit sponsor. But the biggest issue is why has Llambias et al waited until now, less than a month before the deadline, to line up a sponsor? But then when you think about it it's totally in their MO to wait until the last minutes in order to create demand. Andy Carroll to 'Pule for 35 million? Difference is Nike ain't desperate for a sponsorship...

I was one of those who said that Nike wouldn't be the new sponsor, but if this happens, I'll be glad. I just didn't think it was possible, is all, being that Nike are a great company and that it seems like suicide to step into this situation, with these owners, and draw the ire of these fans. But if they're willing to do it, more power to them.
Of course, I'll never call it Nike Stadium.

The Tiote to Chelsea rumors are troubling, though. I look at it this way: if Villas Boas is really making Tiote his #1 goal in January, doesn't that make him worth keeping? And if they're really willing to offer 20M, and we have him for less, doesn't that make keeping him all the better deal for us? I just can't understand why you'd sell a great player who is producing for a quick buck. Who are we going to get that's better in this market and for a reasonable price?

Just drew Blackburn home in the third round of the FA Cup. Tie to be played 8/9 Jan.

    This shit is rigged.

Just looked at the schedule, we'll draw and then replay them, followed by our regular league encounter there. Just like when we drew them in the Carling Cup the same day we played them at home.

    Fixed.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Maybe they'll "forfeit" that cup game too.

Anyone want to bet that Kean will still be in charge of Blackburn when they come for that game?

the Manchesters playing each other should be worth a look too.

Injury latest: looks like Guthrie is out 4-6 weeks, Tiote is out again this weekend, and Coloccini is trying to rush back.

This injury crisis might have a silver lining, it could help Pardew show how thin his squad is and the need for Ashley to spend in January if we are to keep our good form up.

And this would be where we find out if Ashley thinks 6-17 is 'all the same and good enough for business' or if he's willing to spend to try for a Europe slot for next year and the potential money that might bring (as well as cost).

    Is he a gamblin' man?

Europa League games bring in more TV money and more ticket revenue. Plus the extra exposure for new shirt and stadium sponsors.

Right, but I suspect he'd have to buckle in and buy some depth for the squad to accommodate the extra fixtures. We're already threadbare enough!

    A busy day...

    Simpson contract talks end

So.. sell Simpson in January, move Raylor to RB, give Santon the LB shirt, and buy 2 new fullbacks (or one new RB with Ferguson getting time at LB)?
Or make this move in the summer...

    Miaga medical

I'm just not keen on this. Ba is great, and the second striker spot has Shola, Hatem, and Best all fighting for a game. Maybe room for one more, but that one should be an upgrade over the other 4 since there is no need to rush at this position.

Williamson gets 45 min for the reserves

...according to the match report on nufc.com. We may have a decent back four vs Swansea. I'm sure Williamson is rusty, but I'll gladly take him!

There are a lot of people talking about how Santon shouldn't be a LB and does better at RB. Not sure if that is based on people watching him in Italy or bias against right-footed LBs.

As weird as it is to say this, Pardew and Co. haven't whiffed on a guy yet.

I agree they have done well, and I agree it is wierd to say given our club's recent history.

Another rant from the ever on topic Mr. Wasp (Although he does toe the line pretty tight with a few of these comments.):
