You know, I have defended DB's right to be heard (and still do) and even have questioned the leagues professionalism and motives. And I still have questions like does it really cost over $9,000 for uniforms in a season? My God that's a lot of money. However, after reading all this "stuff" that Beau had made available, and if that's how he really acted toward his partners, WPS front office people, sponsors, players, etc, etc., it would be hard to see how anyone can work or be nice to a guy like that. I don't know how the other owners kept their cool. I'm not a fan of the WPS front office, but according to those details they got verbally abused, big time. And after reading that according to the league, he has been invited to several meetings over time to voice his opinion and be heard and he just never showed up, I'ts hard to feel sorry for him anymore. I still don't like that the league terminated the team and I still wish they would have came out with a kind statement to the South Forida fans, but I can see the league's point in just having enough of this BS and not wanting to work with someone who is acting like an all out a_shole.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the League (meaning front office) get most of the money from league corporate sponsor's for the operation expense of the league and front offices? That may explain why they are so adamant about putting sponsorship boards up.
I so hope that he gets crushed in court with a female African-American presiding judge... In another, he referred to the Atlanta Beat team as the "low paid ghetto team" and said that the players were "pa[id]...in food stamps." The Atlanta Beat is owned by Johnson, who is black. http://deadsp.in/vXxBL4
I can see the correlation, but pulling the race card here is unwarranted. He did have black players playing for him. I am assuming he was meaning how cheap Atlanta players were being payed? And how Atlanta had decided to dump many of its USWNT players rather then pay them?
and i'm willing to bet Al Davis did the same thing with NFL owners when he moved the Raiders from Oakland - Los Angeles. It's been noted by other owners he was a foul SOB. Since no one had the internet back than or in its' current form, there was no forum to gossip about. Either MJ is back or not. Who cares what is in all those documents! There's no way I'm sitting and reading all that. DB is to the WPS what a young Al Davis was to the NFL. if the WPS the MLS, no one would give a #### because the MLS is men like the NFL vs the WPS being a bunch of women.
I doubt Borislow is racist. In fact, from speaking with him several times, I'm convinced he is not. He loves the WNT and near-WNT players on his team, including Shannon Boxx and Tina Ellertson. But a poor choice of words? Perhaps. And the league's point in bringing it was that it could bring negative publicity to the league if something like that were said publicly. Not sure it's among the league's strongest points, but that's their argument. They don't say Borislow's racist, either -- only that such words could be perceived badly.
I believe that probably also includes replica jerseys made for retail (check ebay and you can find the rather fetching 2011 Freedom kits). I'm sure Puma ended up with a pile of the obsolete jerseys and were forced to dump them wholesale Also, each player gets 8 different jerseys with home/away + short/long sleeve x 2 for backup jerseys, so they may have had those already made as well.
Plus rain gear, cold weather gear, bags, balls, training gear. It might also include shoes for players without a shoe contract.
I'm sorry, but I genuinely care about the future of the league: for the sake of the fans, the players, the future of women's soccer, the future of the women's national team, and the dreams of the girls who hope to someday play at this level. I'm here for a lot more than just the fun of it, and I can't say I'm terribly pleased to find someone here who's only pretending to give a ****.
What's this? Like any sports fan, I have my favorite team. That's nonsense that fans can't have a favorite in the WPS, just support everything about the league including all the ills. Your favorite team tends to also have your favorite stars. I'm sure WPSmagicjack.com isn't happy after putting in hours for that site. Anyway, after looking at what Philly had to say, these guy aint interested in MJ even if they loose the court case, so life goes on. My guess is USSF will give them a waiver again but they need to get their act together. I'm tired of jumping teams. I really enjoyed playing cheerleader for Magic Dan and the Jacks. Now, I'm torn between Boston (Kelly Smith and Alex Scott) or Atlanta (Didn't think I'd ever post a Fitz team). Yeah, Fitz signed one player he should have drafted. Lets see if he tries to play France (Delie) with a lone striker up top with no one (as in players he doesnt have to pay) behind Press. Sounds like Fitz to me. Anyway, Defunk Jacks.
Where the heck did I say anything like that? It's a pretty ridiculous claim considering that I ran the main supporters group for one of the teams.
Sure, and that team has its own board. This is the public area, not the rivalries forum. Unless you can be bothered to read the court documents that make the owner of the team you support look like an ass, or you can't seem to stop using pejoratives to refer to other teams - and stick to the facts, maybe the public area isn't where you belong. Find a rivalries forum, or stick to the forum dedicated to your favorite team. Basically, you've spent the last few weeks adding absolutely nothing to the discussion about he league. Sharing your opinion -which is as valid as mine or anyone elses - is fine. Repeating in every other post multiple times a day, is tiring. We get it. You don't think Atlanta is a "real" team, you think everyone is somehow against Dan Borislow, the savior of WPS. Great. We get it. Either engage rationally, stop acting like a spoiled child not getting their way, or find somewhere else to spew your bile. Like the forum dedicated to the team that your fan of. Constantly crapping in the common area makes it an unpleasant for everybody. And my issue isn't that we disagree - my issue is that you are unwilling to engage in polite, rational discussion. I disagree with many of the other posters here. That's not a problem. This isn't a rivalries forum. If you want to claim that everyone is against Dan Borislow, but you're not willing to peruse the legal filings, or even DeadSpin's excellent summation, then you're just trolling. You can go be a fan of your team with the other fans of your team. If you want to discuss league issues without constantly referring to the Atlanta Beat as a .5 team because you don't agree with the owner's decision making, then I'm pretty sure this isn't the place for you.
newsouth, I am one who was willing to give DB the benefit of the doubt and I still don't like the idea of folding a financially sound team. But if you take the time to read what Beau put out for us (I was one who wanted more information) in all the motions, counter-motions, email clippings, memos sent out by fellow owners, comments made by DB to WPS front office people, fellow owners, etc., etc., you cannot help but come to a conclusion that this guy was just plain hard to work with even with the most laid back and understanding people. After reading this "stuff", it's hard not to conclude that he acted like a bigtime condescending as_hole to many he dealt with and that includes sponsors. People who actually give you money. It's tiresome and strenuous working with someone like that. I imagine being a WPS owner while loosing money is strenuous enough without having to deal with someone who gives you a headache on a daily basis. I don't feel sorry for him. Still feel bad for the fans in South Florida.
