Congrats on the win. The difference I saw today was Stanford was a little better on connecting passes. Duke was just a little off! Duke is young, so the future looks bright!
Wowow still at old pro would be my guess. And may be unable to respond till tomorrow if you catch my drift. But well deserved for his loyalty. Have to enjoy this one now. Next year looks a bit uncertain but worry about that later! YES CARDINAL DID IT!
aaahhh what a relief! Finally...NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! Not their best game. Very little possession (by Cardinal standards) and they almost gave me a heart attack, but a win is a win! That's all that counts!!! player of the match: CAMI LEVIN...simply amazing, as usual!
The way Stanford is recruiting, they will def win some more titles. Paul Ratcliffe doesnt have deal with Ellis stint of not winning big one anymore.
Congrats Stanford, must feel great after that multi-year build-up. Seems to me Cami Levin should've gotten both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Game awards, but got neither. Baffling.
No wonder they lost last year: Stanford hopes for a banner finish in NCAA College Cup "Perhaps the biggest disappointment for the Stanford women's soccer team last year was not being able to unveil its "100th NCAA title" banner they had hidden at the championship site in Cary, N.C. The Cardinal needed to beat Notre Dame in the finals to do that, but it didn't happen. There are no plans to bring out a "102nd NCAA title" banner this weekend. It just doesn't have that historic feel to it, even though a victory by the Cardinal would be just that." Talk about a jinx faux pas!
Congratulations to Stanford. It is well deserved and a long time coming. They possessed well and fought hard. Huge kudos to Levin. She covered every inch of the field and was easily the player of the game. What a player!!
CONGRATULATIONS!! What a Great weekend of soccer! It was a thrill to watch the Card play two excellent games against two tough ACC teams, and a pleasure to watch them celebrate a well deserved and long-awaited NCAA Championship! I thought the FSU game was a much tougher match (especially at the outset) than might be gathered from the final score, and in the final, Duke played a strong game and fought valiantly for the equalizer until the final whistle. Stanford did So Well to put this one away! It was a really tough final-four. This weekend was great fun (and even reasonably warm, for a change). It was a wonderful soccer weekend. Thanks so much to everyone in the Stanford program-- it was a pleasure to watch the team play. I am sure you are all enjoying your well earned win. Again, Congratulations, and Thanks for a great good time!
Congratulations to the team for finally winning a national title! My initial reaction after the final whistle was honestly more of relief. Relief that after all these years of coming so close, you finally win the big one. There was jubilation all around cachundoville after the final whistle, then a solemn silence to take it all in. My eyes started to well up, it was pride and joy, ..... finally ..... after all these years. So happy, itching for a celebratory meal ..... immediately loaded up the van, drove for miles to get crab, and had a fun time at Monterey. Thanks to all the well-wishers for your kind words. This team not only won it for themselves but also for all their constituents - parents, fans, athletic department, school, and to all those who came before you proudly wearing the Cardinal and White but were not with you when you finally won it. Thank you!
Thanks to everyone who has joined in on this thread during the long journey to a national championship. Wish I could have been there! Time to celebrate a well deserved victory that has been a long time coming. The team showed great skill and character individually and collectively in reaching this point. I particularly appreciate the role of each of the seniors we have followed for four years. Everyone who contributed to building the program to what it is today shares in the credit. There is a strong foundation for continued excellence. Thanks to the coaching staff for leading this program to another level. The gracious words from supporters of other programs are also appreciated. Go Cardinal!
Oh man, what a morning after headache! I'm getting a little old for long celebrations at Old Pro, but hey, how many times do you get to visit heaven in life? Thanks to all the friendly folks who tolerated my exhuberance during the game, especially when Stanford scored and during the dramatic last 10 minutes of the game. Duke reminded me of a younger Stanford team and I wish them lots of success in the future. After watching the Boston College (live), Florida State and Duke games, I am confident ACC fans will get to see lots of fun soccer in the coming years. About Stanford..oh my. Duke took the team out of its comfort zone and half way into 1H I thought the Cardinal would prevail only if it added some bite to its brainy, skilled and composed game. The goal was that and more. I loved the angled replay of the goal and JF's analysis of the whole play, which began even before TN's signature turn-pass-and-off-ball run, LT's signature diagonal pass, CU's signature left-footed one-touch, CL's signature double challenge and cross, and TN's signature ghostly appearance and clinical header in the back post. A team's essence captured in 30 seconds of beautiful soccer. A goal for the ages. Of course green lights to all. This team took coach PR out of his comfort zone and forced him to go about it in a different way in the finals. The four fantastic seniors dictated the style of play all season long, and to his credit, PR reined in his dark side and let the players do it their way. I hope the school organizes a little something to honor the team and allows local fans in. I would take my HS team to meet the players and congratulate them in person for a job well done. In any case, congratulations to the school, the athletic department and, most of all, the members of this great team. And special kudos to the seniors, the best of all time.
What a fantastic game and what a fantastic season for Stanford. Nothing but respect for the rest of the team, Stanford played some incredibly tough opponents throughout the tournament. Here's a neat video of Teresa Noyola and Camille Levin discussing the game, it's crazy that they've played together since 13/14 years old. wowow you make a great point about Duke, they have so many strong young players and I think they'll be around the College Cup for years to come.
They played together on the regional ODP team. Regional teams only get together usually once a year for a week and maybe the Thanksgiving interregional. It's not like they were on the same club team playing together five times a week for five years or something like that. Great effort by Levin on the goal. Congrats to Stanford on the well deserved championship.
From a Carolina fan congratulations to Stanford. A well earned, well deserved win by an outstanding group of players. Now that you have your championship I hope you will be satisfied and allow the world to be restored to its proper order.
Well, it would be great to see Portland back in the College Cup with the Heels, but I didn't mean to invite those other two guys.
the senior class loss this year is huge, great junior class returns but then some new faces have to step up from somewhere. they need some "difference makers" that do not seem to be there yet ,but maybe when given a chance the freshman and sophomores will develop. Kristy Z this year is a great example. could not see the field before senior year, but , given the chance to play regularly, she was a great contributor.
The Goal From Ollie to T: A 10-Touch Soccer Symphony Seven players, including the four seniors, participated in the most memorable sequence of the Stanford soccer program: 52:10 Ollie hand passes the ball to Alina. 52:14 Alina dribbles upfield and passes the ball to LT, who's tracking back to midfield. 52:16 LT one-touches the ball back to Z and returns to a higher line. 52:18: Under pressure, Z one-touches the ball back to Alina. 52:23: Alina dribbles upfield again and finds T, who's created some separation. 52:27 T touches-and-turns, beginning the offensive transition. She serves a penetrating pass to LT and starts her critical weakside run. 52: 31 LT dribbles laterally in the opposite direction to T, gets some separation and swings the ball wide to Chi. 52:34 Chi two-touches the ball to a streaking Cami, hitting her on stride. 52:40 Cami wins two consecutive 50-50 challenges, seeks the endline and serves the final cross to the far post. 52:42 Meanwhile, T's weakside run ghosts her to the far post, where she creates separation and places her header in the net. And then... T runs to the sideline showing off her Stanford jersey and jumps on her ecstatic teammates. Z, Chi, Kendall and Marjani arrive at the Mountain of Joy. When the team untangles itself, Z gets back to business, while T seeks Cami and the two seniors embrace. Paul is right, The Goal was unstoppable. I am already looking forward for next season.
