Also, both goals would probably have been flagged offside if we didn't have men on the posts. :(

Rafinha denies threatening to go on strike

"I would never do that. Everyone wants to play, that's why I'm not always happy, but I never said that. That's not true."

"I obviosuly want to play every game. I play a few games in a row and then am left out for the next ones. The coach makes the decisons, but of course it's difficult to get into a rhytm."

It looks like he will start on the bench again against Bremen as Boateng played as RB in training. "I trained well and gave my all every day, but the coach picks the team."

That's another compelling reason no to keep men on the posts. Its much easier to catch the opponent offside.

I think I prefer the Old method of 2 men on the post.

The opposition usuall have about 2-3 men on the half line to guard against counters so no way the defending team can be outnumbered

I watched how vulnerable we were at corners during Butts time and I never liked it

    I am naive though

Check this article out from Uli Hesse-Lichtenberger: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story/_/id/982188/uli-hesse:-coach%27s-corner?cc=5901

He explains the merits of leaving the posts unguarded much better than I can.

True, if everyone is properly marking their own man. However, with the current team, that is not likely to happen, given the fact that DvB always manages to lose the person he's supposed to be marking on set pieces. With that said, I would rather keep men on the posts as a last line of defense, at least until everyone learns to mark their man.

FCB II also won 4-1 today against Karlsruher II.

Goals from Fischer, Usami, Sene, and van der Meulen.

Sattelmaier - Dombrowka, Köz, Van der Meulen, Vrzogic - Horn (66. Steimel), Usami, Chessa, Can (75. Dreier) - Sene (75. Vastic), Fischer

I'm assuming they lined up like this...

    --------------Fischer
    Usami---------Sene---------Horn
    -----------Chessa--Can
    Vrzogic----VdM--Koz-Dombrowka
    -----------Sattelmaier

Well if we want to win this thing we'll eventually come up against teams like that anyways so why not get them out of the way early?

I know that an international career is rather important, but I'm always puzzled when someone shapes his club career in favor of his international chances. He went to Bayern for exact this reason, too, no?

I suppose not everyone can be Philipp Lahm, who has an international side catering to his club development.

    True-ish.

It isn't as if left back wasn't a problem for DFB side to begin with. No?

The "collaboration" between the NT and Bayern has always existed. Not surprised that's behind it.

We can honestly take them. Just commenting out our luck of always drawing italian teams. It would be cool to see the boatang brothers taking each other on

Yeah ok, but in a final anyone can win on their day since it is only 1 match for all the marbles.

We have a lesser chance to win over two legs.

Bayern (Lahm notwithstanding) has no quality fullbacks to speak of; while the DFB had at least prospects in Schmelzer and Aogo, even Boateng played in LB for Germany in South Africa. (And I thought Jansen played a solid if unspectacular 20 minutes against Argentina.) The options for LB were there for Germany while Bayern had none so it didn't really matter where Lahm played, the opposite side of the field was going to be severely lacking in comparison.

I just find it odd that someone would change his entire approach to his club career to accommodate a future with the NT. Boateng has said many times over that he sees himself as CB, but now he's re-calibrating to accept an RB role at Bayern to stabilize his starting XI prospects with Germany?

And I think someone has already mentioned this, but the Ranfinha issue at Bayern is so weird. He was brought in to replace Lahm at the right yet he rarely plays; as a result, Boateng is playing there, leaving the CB role open for DvB, who is playing fairly well. It's like a comedy of errors and now Boateng is having to accept a fate as RB instead of developing at CB (which he favors) and hoping to gain a position there for the NT. Who actually wins here?
