You have to continually talk to the Jarl. There are times it seems like you heard everything she has to say, but after you do things she has new things to say.
I got more than a few pennies for wiping them out. It was pathetically easy. I'd say it was the second easiest quest I've done. I've tried a few times to attack the thieves - now that is seriously tough.

The only organization I've joined is the Mage school.

I like those crazy bastard too much to ever harm them!

Thanks for the tip on the Solitude home, will return to the Jarl, it has been a while since I last tried to talk to her directly.

Yes, but no one gives it to you. You have to be proactive.

    LOL

Managed to get permission to buy the house in Solitude. I'm still around 6000 gold pieces short though.

    Hail Sithis.

Speaking of blocking, one thing a lot of people don't realize is that a lot of the blocking perks also apply to parrying with a two-hander in addition to blocking with a shield.

So I went ahead and bought the house in Solitude but forgot that it came unfurnished. I only had enough spare money at the time to half-furnish it. :(

I have also only found one bookcase so far, which was half the reason why I bought a second home! 25k for two shelves worth of bookspace is a little on the steep side. Unless I'll gain another bookcase if I furnish the home completely?

I do appreciate having my own enchanting apparatus now.

    I'm the Barça of Skyrim characters: two-handed all-attack. :p

I finally got my smithing skill above 80. I'm depressed to think how long it'll take me to get it all the way to 100 and that sweet, sweet dragon armor skill. :)

If you got enough money just travel round the towns buying all the iron bars from vendors and make iron daggers till you run out of mats then travel to the next town. You'll level up just as fast as making high level stuff.

I must confess, when it came to smithing and enchanting I consoled my way up to 100. Plan to do the same on my second battle mage play through. Always found leveling of crafting skills to be very tedious in every game I've played that has had them.

Smelted over 100 Dwarven Ingots from the (scrap) metal I found clearing out that Dwarven lair in the "return the Lexicon" mission. Spent the next half an hour smithing dwarven armor. That alone made me gain 7 (from 81 to 88) levels of smithing. And made me a nice bit of coin in the process.

Strange. Lydia always is changing gear. I store a bunch of stuff, and she is always alternating.

I finally got her to switch - by giving her another two-handed battle ax with exactly the same stats except that it is much more expensive. She doesn't care about stats, she cares about how much it is worth. Women.

After buying the Solitude house, I've traded up in companions as well. Jordis the Sword-Maiden now accompanies me. Though I already miss the hint of sarcasm in Lydia's delivery of the "I am sworn to carry your burdens" line.

    Re: TES V: Skyrim

So I finally maxed out my smithing skill by making a few dozen Ebony armors. Which, BTW, is the most bad-ass looking armor in the game. I gave a complete set to Jordis just because I like the look of it. I was a bit disappointed when I had to switch to Dragon armor myself. It doesn't look half as good imho. :(

Daedric armor is as sharp as always. Just buy Daedra hearts from the fencer at the mage college, or drag out the Shrine of Azura quest.

It's sad those Zombie wolves only last a minute, I want one as a pet. :p

That Shout (carry voice?) where you can create a diversion by sending your voice to whichever point you are aiming at is very handy to create diversions when you need to sneak into a place.
