One thing's for sure, hitmen back in those days sucked. Nucky's got blown away and Monya's got a meat clever in the head for his troubles. I kind of thought McGarrigle might get blown away but not sure why, couldn't the higher ups just overrulled him?
Maybe they thought he'd turn into a traitor. And why Darmondy wants the Butcher dead is beyond me. But according to this show, hitmen ********ing sucked back then.
Because of his new alliance with Waxie from Philly and the money he owes the butcher. I think it's a little anti-semitism wrapped up with the fact that the butcher bugging him for his 5 grand bothered him. I also found Harrow's remarks kind of surprising. He thought Darmody was mocking him, hmmmm....
Why send just one guy after him in the first place? If Waxie had just sent two armed men, Monya would have been toast.
Agreed, the assassination of the butcher was badly planned. Of course, what else can you expect with a mook like Waxie's toothpick chewing henchman on the trigger? Why give him a job like that? Come to think of it, Darmody's character seems to make consistently poor decisions when it comes to choosing partners. He chooses listening to his mom over listening to his wife, he chose the commodore when he should have chosen Nucky, he chose Waxie (who's only smart compared to his cleaver-wearing muscle) over the butcher (who's a pain in the balls, but a very effective pain in the balls). The only choice he's gotten right in this area is Richard, and that was when he was caught off guard and listened to the part of himself that has some sympathy for others (the part that was leaning toward Nucky, I might add).
Wow, only two more episodes left. I can see it's going to be blockbuster. I'm trying to figure the angle with Margaret's son. That little bastard is going to figure in something big somehow.
Did not expect that at all. Another great episode. Doyle needs to be careful because when Jimmy finds out that he told Munya where he lived, that could be the end of him. Anybody see the previews for next week?? My DVR cutoff and I missed it. Could you tell if anything crazy was going to happen next week?
I think they went too far in making Jimmy seem incompetent. He's almost a caricature of himself. Otherwise, a very good episode.
He's getting it from every direction, no doubt. Maybe the only thing that saves his ass is the heroin.
The most obvious plot development they could use that for is having Jimmy himself develop a heroin habit. Jimmy's response will depend greatly upon what happened to Doyle. If Doyle goes missing he will know for sure Munya was behind it. If not, there is more than one faction who had motives to harm him. Not to mention the fact that Horvitz had no way of knowing his residence.
Well it's quite possible Jimmy will be arrested as the prime suspect in the murder of his wife and her lover as a crime of passion. He already has showed his temper in public. It could not have worked out better for Horvitz.
I do wonder if the writers simply killed of Angela because they were running out off interesting angles for her character? She has been far less prominent than in the first season.
It did seem a little desperate. On the other hand, there was that shot of the Princeton city limits there at the end. Her death (she fell in love with the Princeton-bound, promise-laden, pre-war version of Jimmy) coinciding with his return to Princeton as a mere bootlegger seemed pretty deliberate.
Nice catch. Totally missed that Princeton connection. Talk about a double - whammy. "Your wife's been shot. Oh, and she was playong for the other team." I just caught up on the episodes and I quite liked Nucky's reaction to Mcgarrigle's death. Having already been betrayed he seemed much more wary of Owen and Co. than happy about getting his whisky. Gratuitous dig: the kid playing Bobby is a better actor than Jimmy. EDIT: Whoops, I think the kid's name is Teddy on the show.
Perhaps I'm not remembering things correctly, but wasn't it established at some point that Nucky paid for Princeton?
It was. The Commodore had no interest in Jimmy until very recently. Which is why it's a bit rich for the old oaf to insult Jimmy in front of his men.
