Its an interesting split- libs seem to have the TV satire angle all to themselves...conservatives have AM talk radio all to themselves.

    Fascinating.
    Self importance v. Self righteousness?
    Elitism vs. Dogmatism?
    Bloodless Cynicism v. Blind Faith?

    I'm trying to be reductive-ly even-handed here.

I don't see this as a one vs. the other.
I can be all of those things!

    My county is awesome

I often work the polls at a table across from these goons, they're just as funny in real life.

I would respect them more if they just jumped up and screamed the N word at the top of their lungs. It would be cathartic....they'd feel a whole lot better.

Something about Republicans in blue areas of the country (I know, I know, Virginia is a swing state and Loudon isn't as blue as Arlington and Fairfax, but still).

Virginia is a pretty red state - other than Fairfax and Alexandria, possibly Arlington. Loudoun got a little more purple with all the development the last 15 years, but my district is crimson red. Well, they actually just redistricted/gerrymandered half of our dark red district into one that turned purple last election to redden it back up - so we'll see how that worked out in a few weeks.
It will be nice seeing my new district votes come in and not be able to identify my personal vote so easily - I hope. I am sure I will still be able to do it by watching the polling place results ;)

Guy calls Pelosi a bitch, a whore, and a c-word. He later backed off one of them.

One of the offending tweets from the previous post...

@ToddKincannon: @TeresaKopec Or how about “The Botox Bitch from Buggeryland”? That seems to work for Nancy Pelosi too.

So, buggeryland is anecdotaly reserved, still, for Pelosis district and applicable even though Joe Paterno is a hard core Republican.

For Republicans, real world facts are to be suppressed in favor of stereotypes.

I bet $1,000 it was not the lesson you should have learned. I bet it was more along the lines of "those damn liberals are out to get us" than anything else.

The rather conservative woman I directly supervise is just like that. After the Hank Williams Jr. thing, people were talking about it and the presumed racist subtext of what he said, and her comments were--and she was kind of quiet about this, I assume in case on of 'them' was listening--that "people need to learn that things have changed; ever since Howard Cosell you really have to be stupid to come out and say those things on TV. You just can't do that; you have to keep your mouth shut." Not word for word, of course, since I didn't have my personal stenographer on hand, but that's basically what she said.

Which is, you'll note, a very different thing than saying "It's wrong to hate black people" or "It's backward and illogical to believe deeply racist things." Instead, it's "These days, it's just not smart to say that stuff in mixed company."

Just two days ago in my class--a graduate-level class at a university, mind you--we were discussing the celebration of conspicuous consumption in the media (more or less), and this young man--a graduate student, mind you--said "I think it's mostly in rap music; the reason we all have such a low opinion of black people is because all we see is them talking about money and drugs and women."

Yeah. I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent and educated person--I'm a whopping six credits closer to an MA than that genius is.

I wonder if any of these racist douchebags have ever heard of Primal Scream therapy? I bet they would feel alot better if they just woke up in the morning and screamed the N word at the top of their lungs.
