I wanted to know that fans are more interested in getting the twentieth MLS team and were doing more for it, for example, what city do you think of today there are more soccer fans without MLS team, groups of fans take initiatives to get the equipment twentieth, something more related to the real fans out there today in cities with economic interest in the MLS or markets more or less large.
Without having much idea of what I speak I think I have understood that Orlando has a good fan base is so?

I'd like a 100 team league split into 4 leagues of 25 that play each other in a titanic 64 team tournament at the end of the season for the Ultra Mega Bowl.. that plus $10,000,000,000.

But yeah, I don't like the thought of having a limit.

I think you've got the formula backwards. For the most part demand has not created MLS teams, but instead, MLS teams have created demand (for MLS).

There are lots of soccer fans everywhere in this country, and with TV and the internet they can watch plenty of good soccer from England, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Brazil, etc. On the fields where I play I see jerseys each week from 20 or more clubs (Liverpool, Ajax, Barca, Inter, Chivas, etc.) and at least a dozen national teams. Some people go to lower division or NCAA games, but for the most part, soccer fans who live in a city without an MLS team and many in cities with an MLS team don't care about the domestic league and are happy to watch a team from abroad.

What an MLS team does is bring lots of those fans together to support a single local team. You'll see that some of the most popular MLS teams like Seattle and Toronto had low attendance when they had lower division teams, but when they got MLS teams the fans appeared. Some teams like Portland and Montreal have had great success with lower division teams even before MLS was a possibility for them. Others (like Salt Lake City) had no lower division team for years before MLS.

I think an MLS team with good management could be a success in any major city in the country. The TV ratings for international soccer also give some idea where an MLS team might succeed. For the 2010 World Cup, some of the best TV markets that don't currently have an MLS team were Miami, San Diego, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Baltimore, and Austin.

You can see attendance numbers for pro teams in the top 3 divisions here: http://www.kenn.com/the_blog/?p=4353.

Canadian demand and the added revenue from a national television contract in Canada is what will eventually drive further expansion I think. MLS's corporation structure rather than having franchises is a plus in this regard. If there is demand for expansion MLS can start an MLS Canada subsidiary and have room for expansion in both leagues. That demand isn't there now, but it has potential to develop.

I don't think the league will be seeing anymore Canadian franchises for a long time. There are only a few viable candidates left and they're rather small markets for the league, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Winnipeg isn't an option for a while considering they just got the Jets back and the other three would be very small markets for MLS, smaller than Salt Lake. There's no reason to expand into them when you have NYC#2, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Baltimore, Austin, San Antonio, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Minneapolis, Detroit, St. Louis et al without a team.

You will never have a Canadian league or Canadian Division of MLS for the simple reason that Cdn clubs do not want it.

I really do not see this happening, A Canadian only league would face the problems of vast traveling distances and smaller pool of oppenents. Both the US and Canada are stronger for being a single league, you get to play your countrymen AND you get to play teams close to you ( the Cascadia Derby, Toronto and Montreal close to NYC, Columbus, Philly, DC, NER).

    1) New York - there is a tiny but loud contingent of disaffected soccer fans that are hoping beyond hope that the Cosmos of the NASL are resurrected by some very rich person, yet to be identified, and that all the millions of NY Area soccer fans are going to suddenly start to pay attention to MLS/Cosmos because of the rebirth of the brand.

    2) Fans in Detroit are pinning their hopes on the impossibility of a stadium plan by a shady investor.

    3) Miami is a non-factor.

Orlando as well from, even though I was really upset what they did to Austin. BUt all that is being corrected, Orlando is succesful and the Aztex will be back in business soon. I really believe if the Spurs ownership group was serious, they could make the San Antonio team huge. They have a temporary stadium and hopefully the funds and willingness to build a SSS.
