Stevie Nicol NEVER had complete control like Belichick, comparing those two is idiotic....I will say it AGAIN, the BEST part of this organizational restructuring is taking Sunil OUT of the picture...he was way more involved than people realize.

I'll agree with you that Sunil "out of the picture" (if I even believe that) is good news. The rest of it...it's like washing your hands in shit.

Don't take my comment as aimed at you. If you've read the multiple posts here the overwhelming tone is there is nothing new, SSDD. Revs management sucks, blaa blaa blaa. The NNN's have been having a field day. I'm not ready to say what there trying to do isn't the correct answer to this franchise woes.

When will you be ready? When is it ok to criticize? It's been a long time.

He was ineffective. As have been both Bilello and Burns.

That's why folks are not happy with the move. When an internal hire happens it can be seen a good thing.

Look at the Sox with Ben Cherrington. I don't think many fans are upset by the move. He has a long history with the club, has been involved with it's rise and success. Fans are willing to give him a shot.

Tornberg, Bilello and Burns have all been invovled in mediocrity since day one. The club has been in a downward spiral for years on and off the pitch.

Billello & Burns will need help. Kraft has to recognize that. Get a soccer exec in to the FO to give the club new perspective, fresh ideas and think outside of the box. It's time to rejuvenate this team and front office. Slapping a new title on the same employees and restructuring duties is not the answer.

If you were interviewing for a coaching position with Bilello, Burns and Jonathan Kraft I don't think it would take long for a coaching candidate to recognize that the organization is subpar. That's a serious problem moving forward.

It may be semantics, but the FDA piece said the Revs plan to name a new coach by next week, which means a public announcement, not just an internal decision.

To me, that all but eliminates Steve Ralston because of the timing.

I don't think so. If anything it could mean that they already have an agreement in place with Steve and that they're just waiting until after MLS Cup to announce it.

It IS the answer. In fact, it's the perfect answer.

It's not the end of soccer season, when the full attention of ownership falls to putting the pieces in place, NOW, to launch a winning season next year. It's the middle of football season. KSG can't be bothered with searching for and hiring a competent, bold, executive team for his failed soccer operations after YEARS of ineptitude.

    That takes time.

    That takes commitment.

That takes an understanding of the sport.

KSG has none of these when it comes to soccer.

So, they did the completely expected thing.

They kept their current employees. After all, they seem like nice fellas whenever a Kraft wanders by. They seem to like their job AND they're part of the KSG family.

Give em a new title. Promote them. Pay them a bit more. All in all, an hour and half 'soccer decision' that let's KSG concentrate on the important mid season campaign now underway. Oh yeah, and don't bother them again with this soccer stuff until AFTER Brady gets thru with the playoffs, sometime after February.

Perhaps you ought not to quote me when trying to blast others then.

Meanwhile, surely you recognize the distressing lack of specifics coming from Burns and Bilello. For a franchise that has an established track record of trying to figure how little it has to do to scrape by, that does not bode well.

Oh, they already have it figured out alright. Next year Apathy Alley (RevsFanDan's awesome new name for the morgue), will be filled (to Krafts low expectations) with screaming kids and soccer moms and good times will be here again.

These "promotions" from within a failed organization clearly shows what the Krafts think of the Revolution, and Revo fans.

    They are insulting everyones intelligence.

Even the fanboys and fangirls have to realise this.
Don't you think YOU deserve better?
Wouldn't you like an organisation that you feel good about, and feels good about you?

This is worse than the Krafts throwing crumbs at their fans.
They are throwing professional bums, those that have already failed, and want you to be happy about it.

This guarantees that the failure on the pitch and at the box office will continue.

Doc was pretty adimant about throwing Burns under the bus a few weeks ago, but now all of a sudden he has full confidence that Pee Wee is going to lead us to the kind of glory that we've never seen before. I wish I could see what this X-factor is that all of a sudden makes him competent.

If you could bottle the recipe, think of not only the money you could make, but also the humanistic benefit to society at large...

He told us what it was. It's the power of positive thinking.

Most of us realize that it's just being ignorant and naive.

To be fair, he said he was basing it on his assumption of how the organization was being run.

Of course, when we make our assumptions...

Bilello has been given a six-year "chance" with the Revolution. Burns has been given a seven-year "chance" with the Revolution. Frankly, they've both squandered those chances... repeatedly.

Now, simply because Messrs. Bilello and Burns have been given new titles and increased responsibilities within the Revolution organization... simply because we've been told that a restructuring of the Revolution organization will make the franchise more successful... we're required to believe that the ineptitude that has gripped this organization is a thing of the past.

    Sorry... no.

No. My "negativity" is in response to - and, as such, quite believable - the incompetent manner in which this franchise has been operated for the past several years. Messrs. Bilello and Burns played a significant role in said incompetence. Hence, my negative reaction to said individuals being given increased responsibility within the Revolution organization.

Mrs. Bilello, Mrs. Burns, or Mrs. Doc?

Also, a name was taken off the org chart and payroll (Sunil).

This sounds like doubling down on cheap-assery to me.

Not that Sunil ever had a positive impact on this organization.

Garber just commented on the conference call that he spends more time talking to Sunil than people on his own staff.

And that the Krafts would continue to appoint Sunil to various MLS committees as their rep (no mention of Bilello or Burns).

This "re-org" is all just for appearance's sake--except for the part about the next coach having a much shorter leash than Nicol was given on player acquisition now that Burns is unquestionably head honcho.

    That part, I believe.

Which Sunil is it that he talks with a lot? It must be the Sunil Gulati who is the president of the USSF, not the Sunil Gulati who is some sort of "representative" for Kraft Soccer, Inc. and not some no-name team that they may be associated with.
Yes, unfortunately that seems to be the case. We wanted to see someone appointed in a role to be the Head Honcho for the Revs, but I guess we need to be a bit more specific on the wish list.

Playing Devil's Advocate for Bilello for a minute...

If you're Kraft, and BB is in charge of the business end of things, and he just came off a year in which the organization:

    1. Signed a fairly large sponsorship deal with United Healthcare.
    2. Is one of the few teams in the league that made money.
    3. Attracted Manchester United and the Spain-USA friendly to Foxboro.

Isn't that a pretty good year?

And if he really is making significant behind-the-scenes progress on a SSS... man, it'd be tough to get rid of him if I were Kraft.

Don't quite understand giving him authority over Soccer Operations, and to be clear, there are still a large number of issues that need to be address before I'd come back on a consistent basis, but from a pure business standpoint, I can sort of see why Kraft would be happy with him.

I tend to agree with Mike on Brian Bilello. I think he has the potential to be really good for this club. Like Mike said he did afterall bring in Manchester United along with the US-Spain friendly. Also is working on the SSS project. Whether or not fans believe in this new setup, at least now we know who is responsible for making the on field decisions.

The reason why I believe the Bilello/Burns pairing can work and be successful is because it's very similar to that of the Boston Bruins. Cam Neely being the president and Peter Chiarelli the general manager. Fans were upset when they lost to Philly after being up 3-0 in the series and got knocked out. The following season they are Stanley Cup champions. The point being its the same management team in place so it can be done.
