He's the same way with movies. I pay no attention to anything he says.

OK so I put in just over 3 hours on the campaign last night in Veteran and I'm just past the point where the camcorder is in use by the American (I don't think that's spoilerish). Any idea how far along that is?

Also, can I just say that the AI sucks. In so many missions I've got teammates saying do this we'll cover you and they offer absolutely ZERO cover. Enemies will walk right on by and they're just crouching there doing nothing. It's quite frustrating.

On the positive side I do like the games presentation. It's nowhere near as nice looking as Battlefield 3, but it's got a fun story and I'm liking the cut scenes.

It's about half way through. The camcorder bit is the 'No Russian' part of this game, pretty tame I think.

Agree about the AI, several times I got shot from behind by enemies my squad simply walked past.

Has anyone tried the obstacle course yet in Spec-Ops? If so did you three star it on your own and what was your time? I ask cause I can't tell if I need a partner in hopes of trying to come close to the top of the leaderboard. No matter how many times I try I can't get under the 27 second mark.

My best time is 27.9, barely under the 3-star limit. Did it by myself too. :D

my first impression is that it seems like a better version of Black Ops than the next Modern Warfare.
MW2, I immediately loved. BO, I immediately hated (thought it definitely grew on me). This is somewhere in between.
Not a fan of the maps .... they feel like BO maps. Look cool, kinda jumbled. Hard to talk to teammates and tell them where to go.

But a fun game. Just didn't blow my mind the way MW2 did.

i think the maps are too small, black ops felt better to me but maybe i need to get used to it

loved mw2 though, just not feeling this as much

I despised Black Ops, thought the campaign was absolutely terrible. Then again I'm not much of a fan of anything that Treyarch does.

I finished the campaign on Veteran last night, took about 7 hours. I REALLY enjoyed the campaign, far better than MW2 and 1000 times better than Black Ops. Still I was disappointed that it took just under 7 hours on the hardest setting. And I specifically tried for some of the smaller achievements so that added a little time as well. I played some Spec Ops, but didn't touch the MP and won't be. Overall, I'd say that the campaign was the best of the MW series, and the best out of the past 4 CoD's.

I agree with this other than the maps not having distinctive locations to tell your team mates. Granted it took me awhile to start to see recognizable landmarks but they are there in the game. If anything the fact that multi-player’s pace is closer to Blops than MW; more run and gun than bunkering down an area with teammates, it makes it more difficult to let your partners know where the other team is. If anything you not only need to know the location of the other team but which direction they are heading.

Of course this is just my impression on how the game is being played the first week of release and it could easily change.

Anyone given the Specialist package a spin yet? Its pretty fun to think about what extra perks to add and when to add them. I think the strike package will really come in handy for me when playing Hardcore.

edit to add: The biggest bummer I have with multi-player is that there is only one single shot assault rifle.

I pretty much play Specialist exclusively. It not only suits my style of play, but its the fastest way to level up as every perk unlock grants you a bonus, and you can work on additional perks challenges as you get them.

Specialist + Hardline Pro + Assassin as your first reward is a huge boost. Between assists, and captures, you will be running around with 4 perks as soon as you spawn rather often.

As far as maps go, I'd say they did better than MW2. MW2 had some maps I loved (Terminal, Skidrow, Karachi), but it also had some I absolutely hated and would refuse to play on (Estate, Invasion, Underpass) and some that were annoying, but manageable (Favela, Derail).

While MW3 doesn't have any great maps, it has very few poor maps. The only one I refuse to play on is Underground. It has the worst spawns, and is poorly designed for team based encounters. It shouldn't be on the rotation for anything other than free for all.

i'm sure you're right about the maps. Some are definitely better than others ... they just feel like BO maps.
Doesn't seem to be a pure sniping map like in MW2 (Derail, Wasteland for example).

Playing some more I'd say the one thing this has gotten completely right compared to previous COD games is not making the killstreak/pointstreaks too powerful and I think they did that with several different tweaks.
    1. Rewarding players who shoot down air support units with pointstreaks, although it is kind of a bummer if you don't get at least an assist for helping shoot down bigger air units.
    2. Allowing everyone access to a lock on air units rocket right off the bat.
    3. Having a nice mix of beneficial/fun rewards in the support pack (recon drone is the bomb!). Along with having a very user friendly set up for the support pack means not everyone is gonna go for the assault pack.

Yup, get your first kill and boom your undetectable. Sadly I haven't been able to string together a long enough streak to unlock all the perks yet.

Oh I am not disagreeing with you there, I'd even bet a good number of maps were made by the same teams who made some in Blops.

Did you use two pistols also? Going back and trying the course again I have a feeling the trick to lowering my time will be upping the sensitivity level.

I was a complete moron with my previous COD prestige tokens and burned three of them on double xp to hit the prestige early. I really wish I would have saved them to unlock more gear because I am missing the P90 and MK14.

Yeah, the P99 and the USP .45. High sensitivity helped as well.

I didnt get credit for my MW2 prestige so I only had 1 token which I used on a custom class slot, so I'll be picking up the M14 when I prestige. Type 95 is my top gun, but you get to it a lot faster, so I'll get the M14.

Yup you will get a token each time you prestige. Another option to get double xp is the Elite app on consoles, it started working for me over the weekend and I finally got the two hour xp bonus for downloading that.

Any clue where the single player story goes from here? That final clip/mission with Price and Marakov kinda completed the story in my mind. Go rescue Delta's Grinch and Frost?

Infinity Ward will probably start a new COD series. Next year we get Treyarch's take as usual, and in 2013 I wouldn't be surprised if we got something completely new. They have milked this engine for all its worth, and by Nov 2013 there is a chance we will be seeing next gen consoles, and with it a new COD built from the ground up.

Did Treyarch do Black Ops? So is Black Ops 2 coming?
