Best thing we can do is put the game away early and then play keep ball.

i was just saying that only great teams can win games like u did, if u win a game when u don't dominate it u are a great team, if the game would have ended with a draw there were some chances for ny but losing at home gave u almost the absolute certainty to go through...fuc*!!!

    From ESPN:

The game was marred by a postgame incident involving four players, two from each team. Donovan apparently said something to Marquez, who then took the ball and fired it at Donovan. In the scrum that ensued, Galaxy midfielder Juninho threw a punch at Red Bulls defender Stephen Keel. Referee Alex Prus issued postgame red cards to both Marquez and Juninho, suspending both for the next game on Thursday.

Last I checked this game was on ESPN. Did they bother watching the highlights?

Donovan would have had to yell it. He was nowhere near Marquez.

But perhaps he questioned his ardido. ;)

You're brutal. I know you're trying to make some sort of point, but feel free to mix a few capital letters, punctuation, and some semi-correct spelling. My eyes are bleeding after reading that comment.

Why are soccer players such babies? For one, they can't fight. And when they do get in a fight, they "pretend" to get hit and put on a theatrical show. IMO it seems like a lot of soccer players have really low self esteem. There are quite a few players I've noticed who it almost looks like they are looking to start a fight. You touch them the wrong way and they go ballistic. They need to accept the fact that you are a soccer player, not an NFL player. What exactly do you prove by acting like the tough guy on the field? The reality is, any player in any other sport here would kick your ass. Be professional, and play the game. People who have high self esteem don't need to prove themselves to anyone and therefore don't end up in fights every game.

On a related note, some of the announcers are complete morons when it comes to judging whether a person is injured or not. There are so many cases where a player falls down after barely being touched, and then flops on the ground like a fish covering a part of their body which never got hit (which you wouldn't do if you were truly injured). But of course the naive announcers say the player is hurt and needs treatment. Give me a ****ing break. It is so plainly obvious sometimes that a person is exaggerating an injury, and they won't call them out.

Part of the reason I refuse to watch any foreign/European soccer is because so many of the players are drama queens. MLS luckily has less of the theatrics, but it seems to become more common practice these days. If this keeps up, I'm not even gonna watch MLS anymore. Faking injuries for me, will single handily keep me from watching games. I'm sure I speak for a lot of other people too.

Also, Donovan needs to keep his mouth shut. The media painted him as a good guy/hero. From what I see on the field, he seems to have a big ego, and tries to provoke other players. I have no doubt it was something he said that started the whole fight. It's not the first time this has happened.

Finally finished watching the game, very enjoyable soccer game today.

    Saunders was massive
    Donovan...a little rusty
    Keane rusty
    Gonzo...A ROCK
    De G ...solid
    Frank..rusty
    Becks hustle
    Juhno..absent
    MGee...always there
    Barrett...absent
    Dunivant..reliable and calm

Overall, the Defense won this game. If keane and D10 wake up this team will eat up NY next thurs at the Depot!

Hey TWIX watch baseball where they go on the DL for months with a turf toe or dislocated pinky,or sore muscle! Dont get me wrong, I hate the faking too, but most leagues are good about punishing the fakers. Just takes the refs a while to sort things out and the league to ID the players.

no promotion whatsoever. And on SportsCenter, the anchors were actually mocking soccer during the very brief highlight.

ESPN's mls coverage is a joke.

Go and watch other sports already! As if there're no fake injuries in other sports. You don't even know if they're faking it in the 1st place! Unlike other sports, soccer players don't even wear any protections, at all. Deal with it!

I'll assume you've never played the sport. I appreciate your patience in actually watching the game, seems most Americans that don't play don't give soccer a second thought.

But in terms of 'injuries', even the slightest nick can hurt if it's on soft tissue. Also consider today's game was in frigid New York, with the game time temp at about 43. Even the SMALLEST of nicks will hurt!

I see posturing in every sport....probably even in cricket (had I ever watched a match) and bowling. It's part and parcel of what happens when athletes (at any stage) give all they can. Cooler heads usually prevail, but there's also at least one idiot on every team that loves to talk s&%t and take cheap shots. Just the way it is....in every sport!

I think that writer just made that up about Donovan "apparently" said something. If you look at the MLS highlight they have up on the site of the melee, when the whistle blows, LD is nowhere near Marquez and doesn't even look at him. He's walking toward the middle of the field and Marquez gets the ball and throws it at him. So when is Donovan supposed to have said something to him? Plus, no other writeup says anything about LD saying something.

I must introduce you to Paul Pierce. Nobody likes fakers, but until those doing it don't stand to gain from it, it will happen. I also don't hold with the 'soccer players are babies' accusations. The guys you are taking about are indulging in cynical cheating. I wouldn't suggest that Vinnie Jones or Roy Keanecan.u fight. For every soccer player feigning injury or flopping, there's an NBA player faking contact or an NFL player pretending to be held. All of which would feign injury if there was a benefit to be had. Like I said: Paul Pierce.

Rafa Marquez is indomitable piece of shit. He is an absolute embarassment to MLS, NYRB, and Mexico. His lack of positive production in anyway whatsoever makes him one of the worst signings this league has ever made.

He would be a distraction on any team like a Terrell Owens minus any talent or skill. Dennis Rodman laughs at the huge negative black hole of crap Rafa Marquez is. He is an empty, talentless stuffed shirt with "NONE" of the drive or desire to be a decent soccer player or honorable human being.

Somewhere after this abomination Lothar Matthäus & Luis Hernandez are doing counter clockwise spins in their proverbial graves.

Speak for yourself. It's a part of soccer.

As for the last paragraph, clearly you don't value the position of Team Captain. And how you think he caused it when he had his mouth shut the entire game for the most part and side stepped the entire fight at the end is beyond me (he's busy clapping when Marquez tosses a ball at him). There are egos on the pitch much larger than his. Notably the French man, the rich Brit and the shrimpy Brit.

P.S. Have you ever watched Rafa Marquez. Dude needs no encouragement.

Actually, I loved the opening montages and play calling. And their production value is about 100x better than some.

You want to see a joke? Watch FSC.

I actually have played soccer for about 2 years, although that was back in middle/high school. I got tripped up quite a few times and don't ever remember being in major physical agony. It hurt a little bit, but not enough that I would be rolling on the ground like I got hit by a sniper shot.

I don't know about European/South American countries, but the mentality in this country is that men are supposed to act like men. In this country it looks extremely pathetic on national tv to see grown men rolling on the floor, flopping like a fish, when they aren't anywhere near injured enough to warrant it. Plus if you were truly as injured as some of these players like to act, then you wouldn't be able to move at all.

Also, just watch women's soccer. They don't flop the way men players do. So pain obviously isn't the issue here. Women play by the same rules, and almost play a more physical game, but they don't act like babies when slightly injured or tackled. Some of the tackles the women soccer players receive are pretty nasty, but they get right back up. Many of the men players will just stay down grabbing their left shin when it was their right shin that was fouled.

ESPN does have better production value, but it means nothing if no one watches the game. Even a little what to watch for at the end of SportsCenter would be nice, but we don't even get that. The RSL vs Seattle game got no coverage whatsoever. Heck, the 2nd goal didn't even make top 10 plays.

Don't even get me started on ESPN's website MLS coverage. It's even worse than tv.

Donovan didn't say anything to Marquez.

Marquez has a history of being a sore loser, for both club and country.
