Don't forget the off field situation i.e. stadium atmosphere and outside perception. Just as important IMO.
I'd have to respectfully disagree. If you want to improve the experience and the atmosphere and all that, I'm in favor. But I already go to the games and have a good time. My concern is with putting balls in the net. Improve that and the rest will follow
Why should anyone have faith in the Krafts doing something right with their soccer team. The Krafts are at the root of all that ails this franchise. What makes it most galling is that they operate a terrific football franchise, but CHOOSE not to do the same for the Revos! It would be one thing if they didn't know what they were doing. It is another when they don't care enough to do it.
Yes... and we're 1-to-2 emotionally-committed investor/operators away from hiring the 3-to-4 qualified decision makers in the front-office necessary to identify the 3-to-4 talented players necessary to be a top team in MLS. I'm feeling better already!
Exactly, if they put forth 50% more effort than they do now into making this team a contender, I would be happy as a pig in slop.....Not asking toooooooo much is it...I mean, they do own the team
I still have fun too. They went to 4 MLS Cups and nothing really improved. That's the problem at this point. The outside perception is that it's not fun, it's boring and minor league. If Gillette had a decent soccer atmoshpere and a decent team on the field then I think the rest would follow.
Even in our best years the atmosphere was terrible. At least we had a grass field for a while. Now we don't even have that. The two things are separate, and while "building a winning team" is something that is hard to do in a zero-sum situation, where roughly 1/3 will be "good," 1/3 will be bad and the remainder will be mediocre. The stadium atmosphere and the overall fan experience is something that the club can control, even if the team takes a nosedive on the field because of injuries to key players or whatever reason. The Montreal Expos (a.k.a. the baseball Revs) had terrible teams in their early years, but they emphasized that Jarry Parc was a fun place to go watch a game, with a lively fan atmosphere. It wasn't quite soccer-like, but it was a very different vibe than anywhere else at the time. The club recognized that it was going to take years for an expansion team to become competitive (although they were still in the tilte race until the last week of the season in year 4), so they capitalized on what they could do. The Revs haven't been willing or able to do this.
