As a starter? No. As a backup? I wouldn't mind at all provided we see upgrades in other positions this offseason.
You need more than one, and I think Benny-Shalrie/quality Shalrie replacement-McCarthy-Tierney is not bad at all for a CM depth chart at the MLS level. IMO this is the only place on the roster that doesn't need too much work this offseason (unless Shalrie leaves obviously)
I disagree, I don't think Shalrie is capable of playing CDM anymore. He's a traffic cone, and his positioning doesn't make up for his lack of mobility. This is one position which we certainly need to upgrade in the off season.
Davies is probably not going to stay at DCU (or Sochaux, for that matter). Thinking about a transfer to another club in MLS. Do we make a bid? http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...-changs-plans/2011/10/23/gIQA6gDd8L_blog.html
I'd prefer a quality replacement, but think about it: as far as starting positions go besides CM, we need a striker, left wing, left back, center back, right back (unless you like Alston, I personally think he's not very good), and possibly even a keeper because neither Reis or Shuttleworth have looked very good. Realistically, we're not going to be able to replace everyone we have to, and I think Shalrie is the best of the players we'd like to replace if possible. He's much slower than he used to be, but still decent and worthy of starting for one more year if he decides to rejoin. I think we need to get Lekic, Tierney, Coria/Barnes/Cochrane, Guy (perfect player to go to off the bench), Alston, and even Reis/Shuttleworth out of the starting XI first.
Assuming for a moment that we retain Lekic, Caraglio, Feilhaber, Zerka, and Guy (not all of whom are under contract or guaranteed), I would say no. Even more so if this Perovic rumor turns out to be true. The offseason has to focus on overhauling the defense. If we can stop the bleeding in the back, the offense might actually be okay. EDIT: I would edit this to say I would take a chance on Convey if we had the opportunity. We've got money to burn, so unless there's a DP defender coming in, I think there's no serious harm done by taking him.
Ha--just found out that Cory Gibbs won the Chicago Fire defensive player of the year award. Nice touch on top of Sinovic's year at KC. We need to replace our entire defense except for Soares. GK included. And Tierney, once and for all, is not a left back. He's slow as molasses and can't defend. Just because he can cross isn't a reason to give up so much else defensively. Did anyone in the league have a weaker set of CBs than us? Soares-Coria-Barnes-Cochrane is laughable. The last three must go.
It would be great to see what our CBs could have done with a competent defensive midfield in front of them. Joseph was a non factor on defense, and absolute traffic cone, and Benny got caught up the field a lot.
He filed a lawsuit against the club he was at in DC the night of his accident for $20 million in damages. He's claiming that the girl who has driving the car was overserved and that the club should be responsible. While I don't think he has much of a case I'm unsure of why the earlier poster is so upset and angered about this.
I don't usually go into politics in these threads. I'm a very political person, I work campaigns, and in my spare time me and my buddies talk about grassroots issue advocacy and ways to improve the system of drawing electoral districts, for instance. I feel these threads aren't an appropriate place to talk about politics. We're not Left Wing or Right Wing here, we're the voice of 143. But god, do we need tort reform in this country or what?
There's no way to do that that doesn't deny justice to those who aren't rich enough to pay their opponent's lawyers. We're already in a justice only for the rich system though, so I guess it doesn't matter. The poor can basically turn to James Sokolov or they can go without any chance in the civil courts.
