Apparently John Henry, the owner of the Sox, just took a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs. Fantastic. I'll post up the 98.5 interview once it's archived. Figured this deserved its own thread, because it's the first time we've heard another owner in this area actually comment on the Kraft's stewardship of the Revs. I'm sure he's only making those comments because of what he's read on BigSoccer of course, since that's what we're always told ... people are only negative because of what we say here.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs I redid my post and moved to it's own thread. See above.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs Here's the link ... obviously click on "Click here to play audio". I'm listening to the full thing now, but will post exactly what time this happened on the interview. If someone finds it first, please post...
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs Can somebody paraphrase what he said?
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs When I get to it... still listening.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs I listened to the whole interview - nothing to get upset over. While on the topic of Henry's interest in the Red Sox v. his interest in Liverpool, Henry made the point that Bob Kraft also owns a soccer team, and that it has not taken away from his involvement in the Pats (understatement of the year). In a joking fashion, Mike Felger said "well, the Pats haven't won a playoff game in the past three years", jokingly implying that the Revs were responsible for the recent playoff failures of the Pats. Felger and John Henry went on to say that although owning an MLS franchise does not compare to owning an EPL team, it is possible to own multiple sporting entities. In a way, a shot was taken at the Revs, but it was made in a joking manner. Nothing was said that isn't true or was overly exaggerated .
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs Damn it ... not what I was told. I'm still listening though.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs I guess some would take it as a shot, but it's a statement of truth as well as the current state of the Revs - our "official broadcast partner" took the liberty to have a joke at our expense.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs OK, so it wasn't in the first part of the interview ... so apparently there's a second part. Damn it ... so now to listen to part 2.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs No one was making jokes. For those who don't know what happened, Mike Felger was laying into John Henry during his show, including taking some shots about the time he spends with Liverpool, suggesting he was distracted by it. Then, Henry actually showed up at 98.5's studio to respond. It was amazing radio. As to the general point he made regarding owning a soccer team? Shockingly, most team owners have other business ventures. Henry owns three teams and his investment company, Kraft has two teams, a paper and packaging corporation and a shopping mall. They can, in fact, walk, chew gum and send text messages at the same time.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs Good recap by you as I finally heard it. For those looking, it's about the 20:55 mark of the second part. John Henry didn't name Kraft but "The New England Patriots have been unable to keep their eye on the ball for all these years. Because how many years now, have they had a ... in their own stadium they have a soccer team, can you believe that? Isn't that shocking?" The funny part was to hear Mazz also refer to the comment as a shot.
The only thing that was a bit cringe worthy was Felger intimating that all MLS players only made $40k a year (which is now the min salary, not even close to the average salary). I forwarded them the average salaries of all teams but I doubt they will read it. He was off by more than a factor of 10 for NY and LA for average players salaries.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs I listened to this live, was picking daughter up from school when Henry walked in. I missed the part though of Mazz thinking it was a shot. It seemed clear that Henry was using Kraft as backup to support what he was doing, not in any way taking a shot at him.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs It's amazing to me how many media idiots like Felger & Mazz really, truly don't get the fact the Red Sox, Liverpool FC, and Rousch are all separate entities with separate budgets and management. Lucchino heads up the red sox organization, Henry spend $300 million (!) on the red sox. Felger: shut the f up. Even the Everton, Chelski or Manure supporters should see that the Liverpool hate is wayyyyy beyond ridiculous and irrational. Blaming Liverpool for the demise of the Red Sox is like blaming the fact the Krafts own a paper company when the Patriots or Revs lose. Totally different businesses.
Re: Red Sox owner takes a shot at the Krafts ownership of the Revs And yet we have this quote from Henry on Friday that seems to contradict that idea: "In order to compete we had to look beyond baseball." ... i.e., buying into the NASCAR team, purchasing LFC, etc.
nice stadium, gillette, why dont you guys ask kraft to demand better team management to get a good product to draw fans, and quit your bellyachinng about stadium fo, blah, blah, blah....
Henry mentioned the Revs in this one interview more than Kraft has all year in his about 20 interviews on the same radio station.
The meeting will be in the parking lot on opening day when everyone boycotts the stadium. Oh, that's right, you are all too ********** to do that cuz "games are too fun" why? because he is right?
