By no means am I calling out AO, I'm calling out RBNY for there placement of where the microphone guy stands.

Yesterday, AO had sections 102, and 101, the lead chanter (guy with megaphone) was all the way at the right of section 101, virtually only the first few rows of people in 102 who were bordering 101 could hear what he was saying.

Section 101 was AWESOME, but section 102 couldn't hear any chants, no one did the wipeout shuffle or really a lot of the chants in section 102.

    Just a thought. Your opinions?

    And diagram for it [IMG]

MG is microphone guy, and the green are people who couldn't hear the chants.

That was the Fed's call. They would only allow one Capo. I thought Metroflip was an awesome capo and that section was pretty good all things considered.

Not withstanding the result, this was one of the best usa sections recently. 102 is right next to 101.If any was not singing or chanting, that was their choice. But people in 102 could easily hear 101 and follow along. Not very difficult.

we tried to get 2 perches set up. one for the left side of 101 and one for the right, closer to 102.

instead it was placed just one seat off the center (seat 16 is the middle of 101) at seat 17.

I was singing and chanting, but you could just tell people are unfamiliar with the chants and couldn't really hear what they were saying.

But yeah, 101 was awesome, 102.....yeah lol

I'm just being honest, as I said, I'm not blaming AO one bit.

And, for the record, you're calling out the wrong people.

ESPN has a boom camera that it lines up with the middle of the goal, for TV reasons. They also try to line it up with the center of the section for maximum effect on crowd shots.

Accordingly, you need space for that camera, and the operator. That cuts 20-25 feet of range to put the perch out of the front of the section. Perch is usually in front of seat 16/17, of 30. Seats 14-30 were blocked off by the camera, and therefore the perch was about 5-6 feet right of where it normally is. Plus, there were no stairs between 101 & 102 to use, nor a second perch in 102. The perch was as close to 102 as it could be while still allowing the free movement of the camera.

That is ESPN's call, no one else's.

Metroflip dropped about a half dozen chants I had never heard before I and hope to use them at future games. I was very impressed from my perch over in 102(?)

If we had one more capo stand, it would have been perfect. Other than that, great stuff...Hope to see more capos at future games.

Sorry, totally disagree here. I was in 102, 2nd row, about halfway across the section. There was one guy in the 1st row a little closer to 101, and then me, that tried to spread the chants to the rest of the way up 102. But it absolutely was difficult to hear metroflip from where I was, and many times wouldn't have been able to get started without the help of the guy in row 1. Granted, I don't hear very well! But all kidding aside, there were folks that wanted to get involved and it wasn't as easy as you say.

I did get the sense though, that the supporters section as a whole was awesome for this game. I DVR'd and want to hear some on TV, just got back in town though so haven't been able to yet.

I was going to post here about a 2nd leader in front of 102, but glad to see there was a good reason already for it and not just an oversight. Hopefully in the future if the sections continue to grow we can figure something out.

The section sounded better then any US section I've been in since the Argentina 2008 game. With that said, maybe one day all the high school drama between AO and the MLS groups will be put to rest. We can only hope so. But people, look at the big picture. You had about 18,000 people at the game. 15,000 were rooting for the Ecuadorians .Thats the main problem, forget about banners, forget about whose leading the section. We HAVE TO GROW THE SUPPORT . Time for people to start recruiting, its the only way forward

    This is the truth.

I thought the section was great - but the only issue I see is that some of the loudest people always flock to the front few rows. The Capo is up there with a megaphone - we need the loud people not to flock to the front 2 or 3 rows - instead get to the middle - say 15 rows up - so they can not only hear the Capo but turn around and relay the songs to the people behind them or to the sections to the side of them.

So Woodside is right - we have to grow the support but we also have to organize the louder people not to be in the front rows but in the middle to relay the song out to the rest - so that we are all singing the same song and it is even louder.
