Is this team for real or just a soft scheldule?

A lot teams would have zero losses with that scheldule.

Well, you know they aren't a fluke going as deep into the tournament as they have. And they have one of the best keepers in the nation. But if I were a player, I would be annoyed at this schedule. For heaven's sake play someone good if you are ranked this high. And Stillwater isn't one of those places where a recruit generally is longing to go live for 4 years. Pretty campus, some good programs, nice team culture. But really, Colin!
    Schedule some games!

I don't consider a #7 (top ten) ranking low? Considering who they have played, it seems quite high. Only 2 games that could be considered close. (USC, U of San Diego). All the others could be beaten by #61 Austin Peay, who also plays the softest schedule in the OVC.

    Actually registered for this topic...

I don't think Colin's trying to schedule weak teams. OSU has played some quality teams in recent years - just so happens that the teams that were supposed to be quality in this year's nonconference (USC, Creighton, San Diego, BYU) have ended up being mediocre.

It's got regional games, which are still a necessity for growing the fanbase. Unfortunately, a lot of OSU fans didn't really discover Cowgirl soccer until last year's run. For us diehards, it's nice to have company. We'd like to keep it that way. ;)

It's not that much different from last year's nonconference schedule, but is probably a bit easier. That's fine by me, since AD Franch has been sidelined and we've got a freshman keeper out there.

BYU is in town tonight, unbeaten Utah State on Sunday, and then conference play next week - which starts with Kansas and Missouri. This three-week stretch (last week, this week, next week) will tell a lot about the Cowgirls.

(Oh, and SMU was an exhibition game.)

Good to hear superpoke. I have students who sometimes like to have a look at OSU and it is a good school. Didn't know about your keeper being sidelined. She is fun to watch.

Well, there's not much beyond fan info, but glad to help when I can.

Cowgirls escape BYU tonight 2-1 in overtime. Went up 1-0 just before half, and held the lead until the 87th. Online updates made it seem like they let up a bit too early. Credit to BYU for keeping up the fight.

Winner was a deflected corner in the 100th - the first career goal for senior defender Colleen Dougherty.

Also, AD Franch made her return from injury tonight. She had missed the last six games.

Speaking as a fan - and I'm sure I'm not alone - I'll be watching the Stanford, UCLA, and UNC results this weekend with interest. Not that I expect any of them to lose, but it would be a huge thing for this program if the results fell right and a number one ranking was achieved.

Glad French is back. Hope your freshman comes up as good as her down the road. She was not heavily recruited back then and kudos to the coaching staff for finding and developing superb talent. I think she is as good or better as some who get a bit more press. If she has the interest, hope to see her in WPS or more someday.
Obviously she has a good squad in front of her, also some not heralded and maybe should be!

Yeah, AD really came out of nowhere, and she's been a very pleasant surprise. Obviously we're all biased around here, but we know it's not just us when she gets called up for US duty.

The freshman is Rosa Medina, who was Mexico's keeper at the U-17 World Cup and had a lot of recruiting hype behind her. She'll grow, and thankfully she was good enough to grow up fast and get through the nonconference slate.

Elo-based ratings have had Oklahoma St in top 10 territory for the last couple years at least if I recall. (One of Massey's ratings is Elo-based and Albyn Jones was Elo-based) And, if I recall, they had OK State as high as #6 in one of the last two years.

They did well in the playoffs last year, as the Elo systems indicated, losing only to eventual champion Notre Dame.

I don't have a hard time believing they're for real.

Who lost to Texas Tech down in Lubbock.

Todays' Big XII (well big whatever) results:

    TAMU 3, Iowa St. 1
    OSU 5, KU 1
    Texas Tech 1, Mizzou 0
Baylor 1, Texas 0 (in Austin)

    Looks like a heck of a two horse race . . .

I don't know if it could really be said that we're "for real" after beating KU - especially after what Florida did to them.

It was a good win tonight, but Kansas has a really terrible defense. Let's see how we do against Mizzou on Sunday - they lost tonight, but they are capable of strong play (they beat Ohio State earlier in the year).

Really wish the A&M game was in Stillwater.

Cowgirls keep rolling along, picking up a 3-0 win at Oklahoma tonight.

I hate 'em, and can't complain that they're awful, but as a fan of the game, Oklahoma should be a lot better than they are. With some of the players they have, they shouldn't be sitting at 5-7 overall, especially with their schedule.

In other good news for us tonight, Texas A&M lost to Missouri.

Cowgirls are done for the weekend. Next game is next Friday at Iowa State. Cowgirls have not won in Ames since the program's first season in 1996...just hope Iowa State's well-known groundskeeping stunts are kept to a minimum.

OU picked up two yellows and a red in the last ten minutes of the game. No doubt the sooners were a little upset about being so easily beaten in front of the folks in Norman.

    Go Cowgirls!

Hmmm...you have me curious. Are we talking about mudding up the field or something?

Not quite as far as mudding...but I don't know how many years I've been hearing about how the grass always seems to be noticeably taller in Ames than anywhere else in the conference.

Well, I don't know how the grass was cut, but there was apparently a pretty nasty Iowa wind tonight...and it almost paid off handsomely for Iowa State.

Except Sarah Brown had other ideas.

Oklahoma State wins 1-0 on a goal with two seconds remaining. Cowgirls are now 15-0-0 on the season.

OSU is now off until next Friday, when the Cowgirls will host Texas.

    Whew! :D

How do you OSU fans feel about your strength of schedule compared to the other top teams?
