I got excited there for a minute that Denmark-Portugal on 10/12 was going to be on ESPN. Should that listing say ESPND?
These are the last 2 rounds and there is a lot on the line for a lot of the teams. Reminder: group winners advance along with the best 2nd place team overall (likely Sweden). The other eight 2nd place teams will play in a knockout playoff for the remaining 4 places. Group A: - Germany qualify. - Turkey (14 pts.) and Belgium (12 pts.) are battling for 2nd place making their respective matches against Germany big for both countries. Group B: - Russia (17 pts.); Rep. Ireland (15 pts.); Armenia and Slovakia (14 pts.) - The Slovakia v Russia match on Friday is huge. Ireland are in great shape with 2 "easy" matches. Group C: - Italy qualified. Serbia needs a point vs. Italy on Friday otherwise, the match on Tuesday at Slovenia will be for all the (2nd place) marbles. Group D: - France (17 pts.) and Bosnia (16 pts.) are both expected to win at home on Friday making the Tuesday clash in Paris the decider on who goes directly to Euro 2012 and who needs a playoff. Group E: - Netherlands qualified. Big match for Sweden who need to win at Finland on Friday as they face Netherlands on Tuesday while Hungary (tied with Sweden with 18 points but only have 1 match left) play Finland at home on Tuesday. Group F: - Greece (18) v Croatia (19) is arguably the biggest match on the books on Friday. With both teams facing likely wins on Tuesday, this match will determine who wins the group. Croatia will be happy with a draw. Group G: - England (17); Montenegro (11) and Switzerland (8). - England only have 1 match left and need a draw in Montenegro to qualify for Euro 2012. A loss could be devastating as the first tiebreaker is head-to-head and England played Montenegro 0-0 at Wembley. Switzerland must win at Wales on Friday to make the Tuesday home match against Montenegro a very meaningful match for both teams. Group H: - Portugal, Denmark and Norway are all tied at 13 pts. each. Norway only have 1 match left (vs. Iceland on Tuesday) and are expected to finish with 16 pts. On Friday, Denmark (at Cyprus) and Portugal (vs. Iceland) cannot afford to slip up. They play each other on Tuesday and a draw there (if they both win on Friday) would give both more points than Norway (you gamblers take note). Group I: - Spain have qualified. Czech Rep (10 pts.) and Scotland (8 pts.) are fighting for 2nd place. - If the Czechs lose at home to Spain on Friday, Scotland will likely leapfrog them on Saturday as they travel to Liechtenstein. That makes the Tuesday matches very important. SA www.socceraction.info
No matches on ESPN. I forgot to add the "D" to all of the delayed matches on Tuesday. Sorry. All the delayed matches on Tuesday should read: ESPND. SA www.socceraction.info
It is a shame that ESPN can't put a couple of these games on a regular ESPN channel. ESPN3 does not count. How many times can you watch NFL live? I would be more interested in the international breaks if more of the games were on television. I thought that Ian Darke on Saturday said Germany-Belgium was going to be on ESPN 2 Tuesday. Along with Mexico Brasil US vs Ecuador?

The problem is where I live there is only one provider that doesn't participate. Also, from what I understand the quality on ESPN3 is less than what they broadcast any of their other channels. Just what I have read - have never seen it in person. My question is what does ESPN have on this afternoon that is so pressing. The second tier of Nascar if I remember correctly. Now maybe that gets great ratings and if so. Good for them. Just wishing they could find a way to get some of these games on regular channels.

Here's the situation going into the last round of matches. Reminder: group winners advance along with the best overall 2nd place team. Other 2nd place teams playoff for the final 4 places. Group A - 1. Germany 27 pts. - q 2. Belgium 15 3. Turkey 14 - Belgium travel to Germany while Turkey host Azerbaijan. Assuming Turkey don't slip up, Belgium have to win at Germany. Turkey hold the tiebreaker against Belgium so even a draw is enough if Belgium lose. Turkey in the driving seat here. Group B - 1. Russia 20 2. Rep. Ireland 18 3. Armenia 17 - Russia host Andorra so they are as good as qualified. Rep. Ireland vs. Armenia is for 2nd place but a draw is enough for Ireland. Group C - 1. Italy 23 - q 2. Estonia 16 3. Serbia 15 - Estonia have played all their games so Slovenia vs. Serbia is a huge game for Serbia. Estonia hold the tiebreaker so Serbia MUST WIN. Slovenia may be out but don't expect them to do any favors to Serbia. Group D - 1. France 20 2. Bosnia 19 - France vs. Bosnia is for 1st place. Group E - 1. Netherlands 27 - q 2. Sweden 21 3. Hungary 18 - Sweden hold the tiebreaker over Hungary so this group is over. But see Best 2nd place below for why Sweden v Netherlands is still important. Group F - 1. Greece 21 2. Croatia 19 - Greece only need a point at Georgia to qualify. Croatia need a win against Latvia and a Georgia upset. Looks like Croatia will be in the playoffs but best overall 2nd still within reach. Group G - 1. England 18 - q 2. Montenegro 12 - This group all over. England qualify; Montenegro in the playoffs. Group H - 1. Portugal 16 2. Denmark 16 3. Norway 13 - Norway should finish the group with 16 pts. as they host Cyprus. So Portugal and Denmark can help each other with a draw. Group I - 1. Spain 21 - q 2. Scotland 11 3. Czech Rep. 10 - Spain v Scotland; Lithania v Czech Rep. both matches big to determine 2nd place. ______________________________ Best overall 2nd place team (qualifies automatically): 1. Portugal (+10) or Denmark (+8) 16 pts. 2. Sweden (+8) 15 pts. 3. Croatia (+5) 13 pts. - Croatia have the toughest task as they need Sweden to lose (or draw IF Croatia win by 4+); AND they need Portugal v Denmark NOT to draw (and even with a winner in that match, they must make up the goal difference). - Sweden qualify with a win (since Portugal and Denmark play each other); Sweden can also qualify with a draw if Denmark lose OR Portugal lose by 3+. - Portugal/Denmark (whoever finishes 2nd) will advance with a draw IF Sweden do NOT win; there are also many variations to qualify with a loss depending on Croatia and Sweden scores - with goal difference becoming a big factor. Again, a big thanks to socceraction for the breakdown of the final qualifying matches and for organizing the TV info. Looking at the scenarios, Sweden must be pissed that they are playing 15 minutes before Denmark-Portugal. If UEFA are going to determine the best second (and an automatic berth) across groups they should make them play at the same time, shouldn't they? Depending on what Sweden does, one could easily see either a frantic or a farcical last fifteen minutes. If Sweden wins, Denmark can go balls out for the win with everything to gain and nothing to lose (barring the unlikely event that Norway win by around 9 goals, give or take). Also, Portugal would then have something to lose (automatic berth) with a defeat. If Sweden draws, we may see some bizarre happenings if there is indeed a "negotiated" draw between Danes and Lusos. Particularly if one team or the other is winning going into the last 15. Anyone know how relations are between the two countries? If Sweden loses, the match becomes moot and they might as well blow the final whistle early.
Looks like Sweden v Netherlands and Denmark v Portugal kicked off at the same time. Chalk one up for Fair Play.....
I was watching on ESPN3.com and noticed they had a different half time show to ESPN Australia. ESPN3.com and I am guessing ESPN2 (US) went back to a studio with Max Brentos, Alexi Lalas and Jorge Ramos while ESPN Australia HT was done by the main commentators Ricardo Ortiz and Robbie Mustoe. btw I am not hot on Ricardo surely ESPN could do better
