I beg to differ. Just look at the playacting and writhing in agony! http://i51.tinypic.com/2hdcr4m.jpg
I have no doubt that he experienced some form of pain from the contact. I also have no doubt that the pain did not warrant such an extreme reaction. Either way, the referee should be competant enough not to be influenced by such a reaction. Truly, Atkinson ruined this match. It's a shame.
Perhaps Suarez playacted, but Atkinson didn't even look at Suarez before sending off Rodwell. It's inexplicable refereeing - Atkinson was two yards away, was looking directly at the tackle, and sent the player off for something that wasn't even a foul. Was he daydreaming while seeing the incident?
Are you guys getting Liverpool everton on tv? I have Manu Norwich, the boys in yellow doing really well. With a little polish in the final third we could have an upset
Yep. After 110 combined minutes of Mancunians playing Premiership minnows, the big dogs have not scored at all. Fingers crossed the results stay the same....
so he got a red for that? you can even tell Rodwell isn't fully committed because his knee is bent. He's trying to get in and out as quickly as possible without touching Suarez. Looks clean to me.
hard to say re:suarez tackle. if rodwell goes in a bit faster or suarez doesnt jump youre looking at a broken leg, and he was studs up at the initial slide. at least a yellow. maybe red was harsh though.
I think by the rules of the game, red is definitely possible with what I see from the gif. These days you can't come in studs up.
the gif is an example of slowing something down making it worse than it is that wasnt even a foul, let alone a red card

Sucks for Rodwell, looks like he made a concentrated effort to make sure he didn't hurt Suarez on that, looking at his foot.
I'd say probably 7/10 officials call that a foul after seeing it in full speed. Maybe 2-3 of those 7 give a yellow, but a straight red?! stupid. This sport really needs instant replay for red cards and goals. In almost no other sport is a bad call so costly. Oh, and Suarez makes the most of it, but it did look like he tweaked his ankle a bit under Rodwell's leg. He also grabs his lower ankle exactly where you would if you'd twisted it like that.
Impressive goal from Jonas Guttierrez (who played a great game against us at the start of the season): http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/wolves–-newcastle-1st-half-15491970/
it was the referee's fault but, man, i know the dude is talented but i don't think i could ever root for him if he had come here. i don't care about the handball at the world cup because, really, any footballer would have but all the bullshit playacting is just . . . ewww.
play acting is a disease, but ill give you a perspective from a muchhhhh lower league. i was playing in a 6v6 outdoor tourney...clean through poke it around the keeper, he grabs my ankle but i decide to stay up, no pk missed chance. just one example with a shit volunteer ref...but i think the point remains that a foul is harder to catch if the man is still standing after the contact.
