hi love, sorry I got busy. Bitches be crazy and all that. I just got back from the bay area. Is there any way that CA can be convinced to do reciprocity? I really don't want to take another bar exam.
A lesser person than me would stalk Heather O'Reilly's wedding & parties in my city this weekend. As it happens, I'm not in town.
Glad to see you're still alive. So, is it a state-by-state deal, or do lawyers generally have to take the bar exam for each state they work in? How does that work when you're a new lawyer? Just asking as my friend just got out of law school and I know she's looking for a job. She likes it out West, but I'm secretly hoping she ends up in GA or FL so she'll be closer. Because one day, when I buy my first 3 or 4-year-old horse, I want her to back and train him. I'm a selfish whore, I know. Because, you know, she's going to have time to train horses while being a FT lawyer.
Some states do reciprocity where if you practice in your licensed state for a number of years (usually 3-5) you can just pay to be admitted to another state. Other states do not offer reciprocity and you have to take the bar exam in each state you want to practice in. CA does have a "lawyer's exam" which if you've been licensed in a state for four years, you can take an abbreviated version of the bar exam. In CA this is all the performance tests and the essay portion. SO you're just getting out of the 6hr multiple choice (multistate) portion. Most states offer some sort of reciprocity though. EX: NY offers reciprocity with your state if your state offers reciprocity with their state after 3 years. taking the bar exam is worse than getting all of your teeth pulled and your kidney removed.
If she can train the horse to answer phones and maintain files, I don't see a problem with this plan. Try having the horse watch a series of Mr. Ed and Perry Mason episodes back to back and see what happens.
A lawyer friend of mine deliberately kept her (otherwise loathsome) position for five years so she wouldn't have to take another bar exam.
I don't know why people get nervous about the bar exam. It is pass/fail, so who cares if you get a few questions wrong, they aren't ranking you like in law school, the LSAT or affecting your GPA. Should be one of the least stressful exams of all the tests a person takes to get to that point in their career. If I had my druthers, it would be way worse, because I'd make the bar exam scores of all lawyers and judges public, and supplement mandatory CLE with annual exams where lawyers have to demonstrate continuing competency in their specific areas of practice, with the results available to the public.
If only. I think i vomited blood a couple times while preparing for it. While it is pass/fail, if you don't pass you have to worry about how to pay off the 100K in non-dischargeable debt you picked up. If you do pass you have to worry about how to pay off the 100K in non-dischargeable debt you picked up as well as pay for westlaw.
Proprietary legal research database for researching case law, cites, etc. LexisNexis is a competitor. eta: does knowing that and not being a lawyer mean I should bcm a librarian? My two best friends have been trying to get me to go to library school and be a librarian for freaking ever. My current job frustrations are making it more difficult for me to resist their campaigning. I'm down to "I don't want to take the GRE nor go to grad school again."
I just got done taking the GRE for a MA Moving Image Archive Studies program I'm trying to apply for. I really hated that exam and I hope that I did good enough to "pass" so I don't have to worry about it.
lexisnexis is terrible though. Kool if you become a librarian i will get you this: my friend ryan is a librarian. dude is a cantankerous genius.
I know someone with that shirt. And another person that is (now) getting it for the next gift giving holiday.
nothing to talk about here? talk about how good (or bad) is this little short I did for a 100 hour film race. We did the whole thing, (came up with a concept, wrote, shot, and edit in less that 100 hours) And we are up for competition on the top 20. So even if you hate it, do this fellow soccer fan a huge favor and vote for my short " The Cynical Clicker" [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzmYdqDSL9o"]The Cynical Clicker- YouTube[/ame] http://www.filmracing.com/Films/competitions/grandprix2011.htm
