It was in July in 2006; possibly July 6th?. It was the day of the 3rd place World Cup game. It was a bit chilly and rainy. There was probably less than 2,000 people at the game as a whole though. It was the lowest attended MLS match I have ever been too so maybe that explains it.
It could. I did not go to that game. 2006 was such a crap year for Colorado attendance. They were putting all their eggs into DSGP for 2007 and for some reason they wanted as little hype going in a humanly possible. I remember some tailgating back at the old Invescathorty @ Mile High. Its MUCH better now though.
Screaming Eagles and BB have a very impressive operation going in DC (I'm a New England guy). Even when they were hosting folks for USMNT games, they had everything down pat.
there is a strict no public consumption of alcohol law in Ontario. which makes tailgating not so fun. there is talks to change that law though
Yeah, the RPB's were very helpful with informing us on getting around that law by using "coffee" cups with lids (though some of us still crossed the line and were nearly arrested by the golf cart Mounties). Even the beers inside BMO have sippy cup lids! You guys had a decent tailgate & were nice enough to attempt cheesesteaks, though I guess you can't get Amoroso rolls in Canada, so we gave you an A+ for effort, but C+ for execution...
Yeah at Invesco tailgates were more out of the back of the car than anything really setup like we are now.
That was me, drunk and careless. I tried to gulp down my plastic cup of Guinness when the cop wasn't looking, but to no avail. I almost cried when he made me dump out the rest. I felt like I was in a prohibition movie or something.
Tailgating is about to die in Houston once the Stadium is complete. It's going to be more about PUB Crawls around Downtown Houston.
Tailgating is pretty solid in Salt Lake. By the time everyone goes in there's probably 200-300 between all the groups. Mostly it's just people drinking and grilling, but one of the supporters' groups, Section 26, runs stuff like a home brew contest and chili cookoff a couple times a year. This year the supporters' tailgate got moved to a lot between the liquor store and a gas station, so that's pretty handy.
On floating bridges... I don't mind the lack of tailgating when there are dozens of bars/pubs/breweries within a stones throw of the stadium. If the stadium was in the middle of nowhere, that would be a different story entirely.
This (well, Cascadia) is the home of the potlatch. Tailgating is the modern potlatch. To see us reduced to commercial transactions for eating and drinking on a social occasion like matchday is sort-of sad. I like that I can get good tacos (at the El Camion trailer on Occidental) before a match, and that I don't have to own a car to get to the match but the communal spirit of a tailgating lot is something else.
