Yanks top Mariners, 3-2. Mariano registers his 600th lifetime save, 2 away from Trevor Hoffman's record 602. Burnett went 6, striking out 11 and winning his 10th.

    Boston won, Tampa Bay lost.

Congratulations to Mariano for hitting this milestone. I tried to stay up once the Yankees took the lead but didn't make it. West Coast night games suck.

I won't miss it when he ties, then beats the saves record, though.

For some reason I remember this being a big deal when Hoffman was chasing the record but for some reason nobody gives a shit that the best closer of all time is about to officially become the best closer of all time.

Thats exactly what i was thinking. When Hoffman got 600 it was a huge deal but with Mariano its like, it was inevitable so there isn't much fuss.

Perhaps there will be more chatter at 603.

Well, everybody got beaten last night -- Yanks, Red Sox & Rays. Yankees lost 2-1 in 12. Nova started and give up 1 run and 5 hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Cory Wade is to Joe Girardi what Scott Procter was to Joe Torre. Every time I turn around the guy's name is in the box score.

Bad game tonight. Hope Colon and Nova can get us a pair of wins and lay off some of the pressure.

Outstanding 7-6 come-from-behind victory for the Yankees today. With Toronto ahead 6-1 after 5, a 3-run shot by A-Rod in the 6th and a 2-run belt by Granderson in the 7th helped put the Yanks up by 1. Colon was smacked around, but Procter, Laffey, Noesi, Soriano and Rivera combined for 5 hitless relief innings. Mo punches #601!

    Great stuff!!!

Yankees win 6-4 in makeup game with the Twins. Mariano pitches a perfect 9th and sets the all-time MLB saves record with #602...

    CONGRATULATIONS MO!!!

The pen was great again with Wade, Logan, Soriano, Robertson & Mo going 5 scoreless to stop Minnesota. Burnett had given up 4 runs after the Yanks spotted him a 5-0 lead! The ever-present Cory Wade got the win and is 6-1. Granderson bashed out #41.

Boston lost the first game of a day-night with the Orioles, so...

If Boston loses tonight they fall into a Wild Card tie with the Rays, who don't play today.

Congrats to Mariano! One of the greatest pitchers (not just closers) of all time, without a doubt.

And how about Nova last night? Bases loaded with no outs in the 7th and he pitches his way out of it without surrendering a run. Great outing. Is there any doubt he's the 2nd best starter in the rotation?

Yankees are playoff bound thanks to a 4-2 victory over Tampa Bay. Down 2-1 in the 8th inning, a solo homer by Eduardo Nunez and a 2-run double from Robinson Cano gave the Yanks the winning lead. Hector Nosei was removed after 2 2/3 (4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts) and the Yankee bullpen came through again. 7 relievers (Valdez, Kontos, Laffey, Wade, Logan, Ayala and Mariano) combined for 6 1/3 scoreless innings.

    Way to go, guys!!!

Did Posada just win the AL East?

Clutch 2 out hit scores two and the Yankees lead the Rays 4-2 heading to the 9th.
