Ream is not dominant in the air by any means, but he is not the reason we have been giving up set piece goals. Tainio, Dax, and Ballouchy are useless simply because of their build and Rafa and Miller have blowing their assignments on every set piece.

Ream has zero help around him. Can he improve? Of course, but he's still the best defender we have by far. Our defenseless midfield doesn't help either.

I wonder how much Ream cares at this point. NY rejected two bids from Arsenal, and Ream declined to extend his contract. I wonder if he's pissed about NY declining the bids, and is just waiting until he an leave. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Just look at how much better he looked in the Emirates Cup the he has stateside. Not to mention, does anyone on this club want to play for Backe besides Ballouchy?

Ream's had his share of brainfarts on set pieces, most recently against RSL when he just let Borchers make a near post run untouched. To be honest, other than good games against LA and DC (home) Ream is in a pretty serious sophomore slump and continues to make individual mistakes that you can't blame on the teammates around him.

Assuming that the quote from Greg Seltzer is real and he is accurate, where did you hear that Ream refused to extend his contract? We also don't know what Arsenal offered to have any sort of discussion on this.

Part is speculation from me, but you also must have missed this article. So yes, there's more here. Not just pulling this out of my ass.

    http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/20/arsenal-may-covet-a-red-bull-on-the-rise/

Before the end of last season, the Red Bulls offered to tear up Ream’s contract, a move confirmed by Soler and Ream’s agent, Patrick McCabe. They proposed a five-year deal that could have tripled his salary, but Ream turned it down.
M.L.S. declined to confirm reports than Arsenal made an offer for Ream last year, one believed to be in the $1 million range.

I'm not saying he hasn't made any mistakes. He has. But everyone around him has been absolutely terrible.

And I'm just sayin that Ream's been just as bad barring a few games, so we could say the same about Marquez, Solli, or Miller. Nobody has been reliable defensively this season.

honestly don't know whats going on with Ream...he has been shit this entire season.

Marquez....he should honestly be sold and create space for someone who actually wants to play for the redbulls. This guy gives zero effort for the team. If anything he makes the players like Mendes, ream and miller look better cause they cover for him while he's ball watching/arguing with the ref.

Maybe everything has come to fast for him. From College to the National Team in less than year, rumors from Europe... Marquez should be here to guide him, but he's far away from his real level.

i think so too and thats the problem with the american media regarding our youth soccer players. They hyped him up so much that he is letting himself down even. I think its been his decision making on the field and nerves.

I think with Ream more than anything it come down to focus and more importantly communication with the rest of the line. He is always the one botching the offside trap and still has trouble positioning himself when the other team is breaking towards our back line.

When I read this stuff and the USMNT, i envision #5 being Ryan Cochrane out there.

It looks like Ream is certainly looking to move to Europe no later than after the end of the 2013 season. With what is supposedly at least a $2M transfer fee and maybe as high as $3.3M for George John, this should at least be the minimum the Red Bulls seek for Ream. George John's salary for Blackburn is supposedly going to be a little over $1M. This is hard to compete against. At least the Red Bulls are not looking to sell him cheap and early.

Well next year we will have 150K and 250K DPs, the problem here is if they will add more DP per club like that we can bring good young stars from Central and South America...Because we have Marquez and Henry for two more years after this 2011 and I think we will only have empty the one we are spending with Rost, that if Backe and Co. don't give him guaranty for one more year....

Another bit of good news although I will believe it when I see it is that Nielsen is actually practicing with the team and getting closer to playing which I guess will be for the Sept 10th game againt Vancouver.

If this miracle does happen and we still have a realistic chance at the playoffs (I can't believe I am saying this), this would be a tremendous boost.

With Solli and Tainio back and assuming Rodgers is out for the season, just picture this.

    Richards Henry
    Lindpere-------McCarty------Tainio-----Solli

    ------Miller----------Marquez----Ream-----Albright

    --------------------------Rost---------------

With a bench of Agudelo, Nielsen, Ballouchy, Aubray, Hertzog, Mendes, Coundoul.

If you want to see a wining team you have to see the players U-24 of that team leading the U-24 MNT, because on the younger players are the future of that team and the futbol of the whole country...

If you go to: http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/news/2011/09/agudelo-ranks-second-overall-24-under-24-poll you will see that from the 24 USA players U-24 who have the most players on is the Philly Union, they have 25% of the U-24 USA MNT and that is why they with only two year experience are much better than us....

^This. It would be worth the marketing investment alone.

Also, I can't help but notice how much better he plays when we wears green...

I think we could definitely unload Rafa on a free transfer. I'm sure he would be willing to take a pay cut to go home.

And I would personally make unloading him a top priority in the offseason.

I'm willing to bet though that the management and coach don't think Rafa is a problem. If we make the playoffs, they are going to want to give it another season. And probably even if we don't make the playoffs.

It's easier to play defense when your central midfield plays keepaway for seventy minutes or so

He's also not been that great against the US in any case.
