Not a bad list... but how well is Fred doing this season... is he a better choice over Borges, who while being a hothead (he left Gremio undermanned in a pivotal Libertadores match and that had a direct influence on his ex-team being eliminated), is the current top scorer of the Brasileirao?

Do you guys think Borges merits a call-up, even if it's only for this Brazil-based team?

Elkeson and Borges not being on the squad is borderline criminal.

Those 2 over Fred and Cicero any day of the week and twice on sundays.

Love that Paulinho getting recognition, he's surely filled the void in that Corinthians midfield and is one of the best midfielders in the league right now - really liked that kid even when Elias and co were on the team and been waiting for him to grab his chance.

Same goes to Bruno Cortes on the LB spot - he's playing fantastic.

i don't really care about borges' omission -- simply because the leading goal scorers in brazil are always the flavor of the month. i guess somalia should've been called up when he was at his peak in 2002. :p

Well thats the point of calling the players, to let those who are the flavour of the month\best form guys the recognition and chance to play.

He should be there no questions asked, theres no justifying otherwise imo. It's not just the goals - he's in general so deadly and lethal making stuff happen. not having him is ridicoules.

Same with Elkeson who is practically 90% of Botafogo this year.

Isn't Arouca meant to be good? Why is he missing?

About “flavor of the month” by Leonidas and Muurad
That’s to look at it too simple,
The thing is the one´s who should be called are the one´s that are considered to have potential, being good players that can contribute and fit into the team.

Some are leading scorers just because that specific team is built around them or they do a lot of penalties but some is it because they are really good.
And some continue to show that for several seasons, not just for a short period.

    Fred vs Borges
    A bit different player types
Fred more of an technical target player, more fixed and slow while Borges is more speedy striker, at the moment very good and efficient at that, in the form of his life.
Fred on the other hand has been struggling with form and injuries and has even trouble being best in his team, Rafael Moura is more stable now.

I think its obvious that Fred is not in good form especially scoringwise
but is there due to his experience,
Borges is unexperienced and unproven at this level and over 30 years.
Unusual for an aged player to get a debut, often more likely an old selecao member is getting another call-up.

    Cicero vs Elkeson
Cicero has been a fairly good player for many seasons, he is experienced of both Libertadores and Europe, a versatile balanced player while Elkeson is all offense. No doubt Elkeson has started this this Brasileiro very good, is a decisive, spectacular, and potential player and could have deserved a call-up, but he is fairly new at this level and perhaps needs to settle a bit more, especially in his passing game.

This call is to test a lot of players, normally old players are not being called, simply because they have a very short span they can remain in the future. Calling Renato Abreu for first time at the age of 33 is a really really weird.
Especially since he is passed his best…
Can someone shed some light over this??
My only idea is that they want a really physical player, that has previously been successful against Argies, ex Julio Baptista
or is it just his horsekick of freekicks they are after?

I went off Fred when I watched him couple of times in Sweden in 2007 - went down like a sack of shit at the merest touch. Dump him - and get a real man up front.

Yea I think Fred's time is up. Damiao, Dagoberto, Borges and even his teammate Rafael Moura seem like better options. But overall our attack will be the same that was against Ghana. (Damiao, Neymar, Ronaldinho) and maybe Lucas...

I think I would prefer LEONARDO Moura up front than Fred!

He isn't is he - but a left back was allegedly spoke about as one. Not that it matters one iota.

Fred should not be picked - we do not want him to interrupt his night out for a mere football game!

Dagoberto is a phenominal player. Great speed, muita habilidade, a finisher, a craque. Scores non stop. I don't get it.

You have a pretty loose definition of what makes a craque, that's what's wrong here. Plus,Dagoberto hardly "scores non stop", are you trolling? :p

Dagoberto is also extremely selfish and isn't a productive player, he doesn't add anything to a team, once in a while he will score a beautiful goal because, let's face it, he is skilled.

Also, Dagoberto doesn't even care, he never cares, dude is the most lethargic player I've seen after Keirrison.

No I don't have any "loose definition" of craque, and Dagoberto IS a craque and anybody will tell you that. Not a productive player? Come on now, he is only a starter attacking midfielder of a team currently in first place of the Brasileirao, and BTW, he scored again yesterday in Rogerio's 1000th game.

Well let's see how unproductive Dagoberto is:

Argentina will not have Veron and Riquelme for tomorrow's game.

Fred looks like will get cut due to the injury he picked up over the weekend. Fred wont be missed.

    Vamos Brasil!!!

Dagoberto has all the tools to be a top player, except intelligence. He is one of the stupidest players I've ever seen.
Also, he doesn't know the meaning of playing in a team. All he does is play his own game.
