The ESPN Soccernet live webchat mentioned that it was wage demands that killed the Arteta deal.

Somehow the board are to blame, because rumors are not true ?

Half those players were not considered, we cannot match the Mata salary offer, Gotze is going nowhere, M'Vila and Hazard were intentionally over-priced.

There is some benefit to $$ in January, when in November, you find out that ____ is out for the season.

I have to be honest. If what his youtube videos show is true, i really REALLY saw no reason not to offer a 1 year trial contract. The guy is quality he is just injury prone. If he is taking good care of himself like his videos show, we should have thrown a few bucks at him.

I was watching the Sky Sports reporter standing out White Hart Lane, and thinking of how entirely forgotten are the riots - only days later.

In 2 weeks, no one will remember who was signed on Aug 31.

The point of signing a player is not for fans to feel good for a few days, it is to assemble the best squad.

If you're listening to Sky Sports News, doesn't Dave Basset sound like he's turning into an old cumudgeon? :-D

Yep and a midfield with two players (if not three) considered Arsenal legends and a midfield which overall should've provided better cover for that "lousy defense" on the day. The point being....contrary to your statement, it wasn't a Carling Cup team that got hammered...far from it.

As long as they don't get in the way of the development of a couple 17 year olds.

I can't speak for others, but I blame the Board/management for selling late and putting the club in a position where finding a suitable replacement for players they knew where leaving has become an insufferable task. I get the way the transfer deals work, but there's no reason Arsenal, ARSENAL!, should be juggling last minute negotiations for either Arteta or Benyoun on loan for a woefully thin midfield.

Their deals already show the club has put themselves into a position of reacting to need rather than building for strength (a luxury from the past), but even then this scrounging for scraps reeks of a desperation that belies the supposed aspirations for the club. I'm hopeful, but at the least this is an abysmal show from a PR perspective.

Agreed, and I'm hopeful that's one reason they're holding back now, but their MO suggests otherwise.

Dude! Are you on crack, or just looking for an argument? Back 4 - Cole = Stellar, Luzhny = decent, Grimandi in the back 4 = bollox, Stepanovs = makes Squilcci look like Sol campbell!
