Did you really think we'd go out and make an a+++ super signing today when: 1) that's not how arsenal does things and 2) we did nada all summer long.

Gotse would just do the trick or even Sneijder would be better.

Go back in history, you will find out that arsenal made some big moves right at the deadline of the transfer window in the past...

M'Vila wanted to come, Rennes didn't want to do business.

Goetze was an old bid/interest that occurred when Cesc was still here.

Wouldn't be against selling Rosicky and/or Arshavin...

On the plus side, it means no Has-Beenayoun.

yeah but I think times are different now and our back is really against the wall. I can't see us doing a super signing like Messi or Ronaldo or anyone of that caliber.

Not sure why everyone is talking about Arteta being here for depth. He would be a starter IMO. Better than Ramsey right now.

So what now Yossi and Arteta? I guess Arsene is just trying to buying two for one deal. Come on man, Just bid strongly on a player that is quality and will grow with the team.

Anyone know the history or rationale of why the Transfer Window closes after the season opens?

Doesn't it make more sense for everyone to have this shiz sorted before the domestic seasons start?

Its not like there'd be less business if the window closed July 31 v. Aug 31

I would rather have Fellani and have Wilshere play the advanced role.

I will be very disappointed if the only midfielder we get is Arteta. Not because I don't rate Arteta but because he can't stay healthy. We don't need another player who is sitting on the sidelines when we need him most.

If we get Arteta and another quality, albeit not super quality, player I will consider ourselves to have come back to level.

A tweet from OptaJoe -- 2.7 -- only 5 players have created more chances per 90 mins in the Premier League since 06/07 than Mikel Arteta.

A second tweet lists those 5 -- Fabregas, Gigs, Malouda, Lampard & Nani.

    Cue bigman statistics rant... ;)

    = American Market = $$$$

    (TV, merchandise, etc...)

Plus he is in his prime (under 30)

I'm hoping the Arteta "news" is a fabricated smokescreen for Hazard or someone else to move the deal along, Arteta would be a total blunder.

He would be a starter until he is carted off the field for a 7 week injury hiatus.

I know many folks will be unhappy with this window especially with how last minute everything was done. Regardless, we have lost two of our biggest players along with a starter from last year and some other players. We have signed 6 players this window and hopefully will add an addition midfielder. It will be a year of transition and we should be able to be on par with last year. Next summer will determine if we move forward by keeping our bigger players and adding quality or continuing to replace just what leaves.
