Not to turn this into the beer thread, but any one you tried the Newcastle Werewolf Red Ale? SOOOO Good. p.s. F Newcastle, the team, for getting Enrique
Beyond the obvious injury issues with Arteta, what would make a Dempsey deal a better long-term investment for Arsenal? Both players are antithetical to Arsene's business strategy.
Actually, I don't think that's ridiculous at all. Unfortunately, he doesn't stay in great shape and busting veteran players into shape is not a strong point for Wenger.
I don't think either would be a long-term investment... I think the approach has to be, which can give you the best next three years. To me that is Dempsey, for which you can refer to my hard-fought assertions from yesterday. Hard-fighting like Dempsey!
I rate Arteta, when healthy... I think the bigger question is do we object to a 10m price tag... or at this point with our cash reserves do we care? I care, if money saved can be used in the future for more players in Jan or next summer, I'd be pissed if the Board just pocketed the balance from this summer. Edit: of course they will pocket some, it is a biz
Because we waited too long - too long to sell Cesc and Nasri, too long to line up other targets. Look at it from the perspective of other teams: Why would Dortmund sell Goetze? Why would Rennes sell M'Villa? And so on. They aren't in financial difficulty, the player doesn't want to leave. As such, Goetze can refuse to sell and Rennes can demand a price that is way too high. But that is the situation when you don't plan well. As it stands, we have improved the team immediately and significantly in the short run from where we were 2 weeks ago. I think we will compete for fourth and maybe third. We will probably make the CL knock out round. We are, at best, standing still in the grand scheme of things, then - which is a problem. But compared to where we were, things are a lot better.
I suppose you want to spend money just for the sake of spending money. Strong rumours are that Yossi Bennayoun is heading to Arsenal.
Arteta is more playmaker than Dempsey and is an all around better player. However, none of them is anywhere close to what is needed at Arsenal now. It is obvious that we need a big time player that would not only be a major talent upgrade but that could also bring a major morale boost to not only the team but also the fans who are desperately trying to find some glimmer of hope in these difficult times. The talks of the likes of Benayoum, Arteta, Malouda or Dempsey joining the Gunners is rather underwhelming.
