Oh man, I thought he was maybe adopting a big @ss central defender. I guess we will have to wait a bit until the boy matures.

But yeah. Good stuff for the Sturminator. Usually when you get a behind the scene glimpse of media types they are self-serving prima donnas. Aside from supporting soccer, I never knew Sturm was such a solid guy.

Thought Sturm did a solid job tonight commentating vs. SKC. Where was Jolley?

Sturm has an intelligent love for the game and is definitely a very decent fellow.

I wish him and his family many, many years of happiness as they bring this young child to America.

He was welcoming his own child into this world.

So true. I'm getting tired of listening to Rhine quote the same fact sheet about each player and read off the upcoming fixture list. Does anyone know why Sturm is in for Jolley/how long we will benefit from this change?

Or listen to Jolly only talk about when he used to play with or against a player. That's a nice piece to pull out of the bag every now and then, but not 7 times a match...

Does Sturm have emotions? I don't understand how any commentator, much less a homer, can watch a team score two late goals to tie, then win a game and still speak in such a flat monotone. It's possible he had great analysis of the on-field events and was a veritable encyclopedia of FC Dallas and MLS knowledge, but all I heard was "Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?"

All I'm saying is there's a reason why Ian Darke has become so popular this side of the pond and it's not (just) his accent.

That's just Bob's style....he's the same way during his show on The Ticket. It takes a long time listener to realize when Bob's is bothered by something. Ian Darke is popular because he is usually calling high calibre, high pressure games....so the emotion is palpable. When MLS regular season PbP guys start screaming about every completed pass it just sounds like amateur hour.

Especially those clowns that called Rapids games a few years ago.

These two things are not alike. I don't want that either. My problem is he sounded about as excited as the KC commentators probably were during those last 4 minutes.

I get it....you think he's a bit too detatched....I disagree. I think the video footage usually speaks for itself and he is just there to add flavor. I think he did a great job, better than anyone else in the booth for FCD this season by far. He speaks to the knowledgeable soccer fan and says things that either we are, or should be, thinking. Thank goodness....I'm kinda sick of some guy who wants to explain the offside rule for the umpteenth time.

I think Sturm does a fine job. And, anything beats "a slice of cheese for you". But, true greatness would be a local version of the EPL thing they do on Fox where a couple of homer slightly drunk fans do the commentary of the games. Too bad we don't have an audio chat board whereby we could all make idiotic color commentary live on the away games.

Talk about your bad radio, we could take it to true HD stupid.

Something like: Oh no Schellas, anyone but that idiot, very poor substi....... GOALLLLLLL!!!! Great substitution by Schellas!!! Just the kind of change I have been asking for all night.

Fox Soccer tried that a couple of years ago....it was a total fail. Partly because they guys they choose were utter idiots and didn't know how to talk smack at all.

But we've got so many clever ones here on our board. I can hear El Jefe saying "Sweet merciful crap..." followed by a scathing statement.

I wonder how hard it would be to setup a G+ hangout that then was broadcast out to the wider audience of freaks. Pretty simple to do video chat for two up to 10, the question would be the wider feed.

I've got a permanent livemeeting setup that might actually work if someone (cough, Buzz, cough) ever wanted to try it out.
