So who/what would we trade? I don't think we have allocation money, so that means players...excess midfielders...what does LA need? A Tony Tchani with low mileage, but no meniscus?
Mendoza. Ok seriously, Gardner, G'Baum,or Francis. Thing is we dont need to give up much. Hes their 4th DP. They have to move him for Robbie Keane. We dont have to offer much, just more than everyone else. And we do have allocation $$ I believe since we didnt get anything from outside the lower 48.
We can't trade Gardner when he is our only healthy LB. LA has the best backup keeper in the league in Saunders and a good prospect in Perk at #3. Francis has a lot of potential, and I would hate to see him go, but he can't stay healthy and he seems like a good candidate. I could also see us trading draft picks, but LA normally trades theirs away, so they may not be interested. My preference would be to hang on to the first round pick and draft a CB, anyway. All of our injuries put us in a difficult spot as far as trades go.
Good call on Gardner and GBaum. What about tRR? Hes been better as of late. But, all the talk from earlier in the season makes me think he isnt coming back at the end of the season so why would we want to keep him? At the same time, what the hell are the chances of our cheap ass FO signing two DP strikers??? All I do know is that standing pat this season isnt good enough. We need to make a move to stay in step with Philly AND gain ground on the entire Western Conference.
How about Dilly Duka? He has a long history of ankle injuries, and it doesn't look like it's getting any better. He has the skills, but can he stay healthy? Is it worth giving away the free GA cap room for next year (assuming he still is GA) to slightly improve our slim chances this year?
While I am higher on JPA than others (though his recent form is troubling), no way you trade any youth for him. JPA is probably got 1-2 more years and is on the wane at a high price tag. Gardner is up and coming and cheap who could be around for years, Hesmer is showing more wear and tear as the seasons pile up on his body so keeping GBaum around is a very smart move too. If it is Keane to LA, LA is over a barrel on JPA. They have to move him to do what they want to do and, being LA, damn the consequences. I could see giving them a 2nd or 3rd round pick plus a supplemental draft pick as an extra goodwill gesture along with taking him off of their roster for them. His salary is pro-rated through the end of the season, you bump Mendoza at season's end and JPA becomes the DP for 2012 (I think he signed a 2-year deal when he joined LA this season). Aging forward, yes. But one with a track record of scoring in MLS and who would appear to have a better work ethic than VIVA to show the young strikers on the team (which is a plus in Bobby W.'s book I'm sure) Of course, an emergency meeting could be declared by the owners and suddenly the roster rules change again...
I think Chivas USA would be more likely, since they passed on Adu, and I guess the Crew are in the Mix for him.
I cannot stomach Robbie Keane to LA for one very important reason: If he goes there, I am going to have to, for the first time in my life, swoon over the LA Galaxy and be that 35 year old jerk off that hangs over the railing clamoring for his autograph trying to get him to sign my Spurs Keane UEFA Cup jersey "for my son." I can't bear it.
OP is off on the initial question: Eddie Johnson is a returning Nat and would be subject to the allocation order (just like DeMerit, Feilhaber, and Adu). Chivas would be up first. We can't just go out and sign him. Nguyen isn't that much of a force, and was more of a midfielder/crafty type last time I checked. A lot fewer caps, but he may still fall under the same rule and be subject to allocation. No way I give LA any player of any worth for JPA. Josh Williams would be about as high as I'm wiling to go. He has Donovan, Beckham, and Juninho feeding him the ball, and Mendoza has more than twice the # of goals he does. I'd take a chance on an import first. I don't want to be stuck with his contract beyond this year. I'd like to see Viva/Renteria actually play one game together first. Might be willing to go late round/supplemental pick for him, if we aren't on the line for his deal beyond this year (La pays for him).
He says he wants back east. I'm not sure if Columbus counts in his head, but it's been pretty obvious he hasn't enjoy Circus LA. Anyway, I'd love to have him, especially considering the alternative is another team bolstering their attack while we stay so awful in that area. And besides, he could show Mendoza what a South American player with some professionalism looks like.
@SoccerByIves Ives Galarcep Hearing that Philly, Seattle and Chivas USA have all inquired about Juan Pablo Angel but nothing close 2 done. Also a chance he could retire Why the hell have we not even inquired at this point?
Perhaps it is because he has been finished for some time? JPA is not the answer to our scoring woes...
While we're dreaming, our striker chances could really be improved by wandering-man Carlos Tevez...I'm sure he can find here what he couldn't find in Manchester.
@SoccerByIves Ives Galarcep Hearing that the Columbus Crew have provided Wesley Sneijder a lifeline with a $45m bid to join the MLS outfit.
Let's take a shot with Iro guys. Did you see him with TFC? He had a "cheeky" backheel that set up a goal! oh wait -- that was more like a whiff at the ball and to the wrong team... Still -- that skill can't go unnoticed forever!
