1-0 by, you guessed it, Holtby. Draxler assist.

PML showing in this game just how slow he is. I had hopes, but they were slowly dying. (See what I did there?)

But I'm glad Draxler and Holtby get to play together. Good for Schalke.

I know this is a U21 game against European giant Cyprus, but Holtby has just been masterful in this first half. His movement is far and away better than anyone else's on the pitch.

Rudy is playing really well also. I rate these two and then Baumann, who didn't start. I wonder why.

Yea we all know Holtby is above this level but the team needs him, that much has been evident.

He plays much better than in the last game for Schalke though I have to say that Rangnick makes bad use of Holtby. He just isn't a CM and even the wings are a waste for him.
Holtby can be great as AM/SS and that's where he should play with all the neccessary freedom. That's why he plays so much better for the u21 because there he can play in this role and do on the pitch whatever he wants (you see him pretty much everywhere today).

Ironically enough, he's playing on the right today.

He was, which surprised me quite a bit. Didavi and Draxler played centrally. I don't know if this was a conscious decision by Adrion but it was so blatant that it had to be.

His position on paper was definitely AM. He does often switch to the wings just like Özil does for the A-NT but you could also see him very often in the center or even in the box (especially in the 1st half).
Didavi and Rudy were playing behind him while Draxler was supposed to be the RM though it's true that he often drifted into the center.

Must have made an in game decision to balance the squad then by moving to the right. Been a fantastic captain for the side.

What do you guys think of Draxler btw? Played a lot last season including CL and Pokalfinale but for some reason he never really made an impression on me.

Great shot but I need to watch him more to see what else he brings to the table.

Wanna gather more info on highly rated U16 striker Timo Werner.

Werner already started in the B-Jugend(U17) League at the age of 14/15, and scored a promising 7 goals in 10 games against players who are generally 2 years older.

His scoring rate for the DFB U15 was actually impressive too and has been rated as the best player in that youth NT.

Stuttgart have produced some good strikers in the past, Klinsmann, Bobic, Mario Gomez, Julian Schieber n now i hope Timo Werner can step up n live up with the hype

Wolfsburg have done well at u17s and u19s levels recently. Do they have Gotzes and Ozils in there ?
Magath gave a chance to a lot of youngsters in Schalke like Matip, the Greek and Draxler.
Looking at their senior squad, they have a few youngsters listed there like Robin Knoche(1992), Kevin Scheidhauer(1991),Bjarne Tholke(1992),Michael Schulze(1989) and Sebastian Polter( 1991).

Scheidhauer had a good goal ratio last season. He scored 23 goals in 24 matches, 4 of them in the 3 championship play-offs matches. And this season so far 1 goal in 2 appearances for the Wolfsburg reserve.

But the problem is how many playing time the Wolfsburgs youngsters will get in the BL team. Magath as usual pumps lots of money into a big squad to create competition and with VWs money he could get experience BL players at many positions.

Yesterday, Nurnberg played against Fenerbahce in a friendly. I watched the highlights and Fenerbahce were leading 2-0 and were having all the chances. Then Markus Mendler came on in the 59th min and Nurnberg started to create chances and scored one goal. All of the dangerous attacks came from Mendler's right wing. He was involved in all of them. He assisted the assister for the goal. He takes the corner kicks. He can cross very well. He can dribble. He is very influential. If he stays fit, people will recognize him as a top player by the end of the season I am sure. He will turn 19 in january.

As far as i know, Draxler, Kittel and Mendler are the top prospects in the 1993 age group.

Da Costa and Rudiger are not bad either. And i think Da Costa did play for Leverkusen's first team and started in DFB Pokal or something

But just liek many other age groups, there isnt a good striker in the U19
