*sigh* real is always trying to one up barca [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2AYLTW9i8E"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2AYLTW9i8E[/ame]
I got it from a espn forum. I brought here since there are more soccer knowledgeable people here that would know.
Not promoting him to any future greatness but that is just fun. Someone who has followed US soccer development for years now its fun to see an American youth do tricks and understand the game at a high level for a 12 yr old. Don't really care if Real Madrid signed him because hopefully the Fire can keep an eye on him. Thanks.
I call bullcrap on the madrid rumors. It would be huge news if an American was signed to Real Madrid, at least we would be hearing about it through YNT forums or something. In the video the kid looks like an American Zidane, what technical ability on the ball!
First few minutes were ho hum. Typical American youth big kid running linear up right then boom, Pull backs, one touch, tricks. I loved how the pull backs at 1:20, the high angled chest trap, the one touch to open teamates after getting out of trouble. Enric Alegre, Nicolas Pergine, and Jack Gilliam.
Are there any any U.S. youth soccer players playing in the Barcelona youth system? I remember reading on this board that there were. I guess Claudio Reyna was rite where he said in an interview that our best techinical players are in the 12 to 13 year age group rite now.
yes, an 11 year old from california signed like a two year academy deal with them. go find it in yanks abroad.
There are lots of kids like that all over the country. This player is not so unique. At least 2 more at his age in Chicago. BTW he doesn't play in Chicago. I think he's from CFJ-FL. The question is what happens to them by the time they reach senior age? The "training" kills them. This player is another example of what I've said in the other thread. The players are there, the coaches are killing us.
So through his hard work and coaching up through age 12 makes him the player he is but once he gets to the Chicago Fire program his lack of quality coaching will ruin him? I think your forcing a legitimate concern into a crack of a thread that it may not belong.
What thread is it? I can't find it on the youth national teams forum? Do we have a thread for U.S. youth players in youth academies in Europe?
Sport.es recently published an update on the Barca cantera. Lederman has moved up to the "Alevin" category, for 10-12 year olds. From there the progression is infantil-cadete-juvenil. Alevines: Joan Altamira, Rubén Acosta, Ben Lederman, Imad El Kabbou, Bernat Renom, Pau Martínez, Sergio Paz, Marc Carmona, Álex Sala, Marc Fernández, Marc Guerrero, Takefusa Kubo y Kenneth Soler. Not sure of any other Americans there, could possibly check later. http://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/20110803/altas-cantera-del-barca/1105146.shtml Actually Lederman is the only new face from the U.S.: "En cuanto al origen de las 79 caras nuevas de la cantera, hay que destacar a seis llegados directamente de tres continentes diferentes. Desde EE.UU., el medio Ben Lederman se unirá al Alevín A procedente de la Academy PB Los Angeles; desde Corea del Sur reforzarán al Infantil A Lee Seung Woo y Chang Hee Kyul y desde Japón será Takefusa quien haga lo propio con el Alevín C o D. Quienes vieron a los dos coreanos durante su prueba en la Ciutat Esportiva dicen que son dos fenómenos." (just a list of where the new canteranos are from) http://www.mundodeportivo.com/20110804/la-cantera-ficha-79-joyas-mas_54194829266.html
Is it a legit concern? We are developing players good enough to go to top euro clubs by 12 but are failing afterwards ? It seems like a win win to me. 1. we are developing players good enough to go, and 2. our DA's are growing and many are beginning to integrate into the 12-14 age groups. Is it just a matter of time before a player can fully devlope here in the USA from start to finish. IMO both LA Gal. and FC Dallas are getting pretty close
I think overall concern for coaching for youth in the US is legitimate. If not C.Reyna would not have emphasized his littles curriculum only 4 months ago. I tend to lean towards your viewpoint that the old narratives of kick and run, athletes only, winning tournaments, always bad coaching are still evident but have changed significantly in this country. Jack Gilliam and Ben Lederman are examples of this change. I just don't think its so black and white these days. Some of the old guard are still there but its changing we have to understand both co-exist in the US. You say in your post that its just a matter of time so in my mind its not there yet and those old narratives do have a kernal of truth just not the 100% of the people 100% of the time so many who post here think it is. Alot of grey in this transition we in the middle of.
