It's not an A competition. It doesn't CAP-tie him. He could play the friendly for the USA and still join the German national team. His choice was club or country. He probably gets paid better in club and wants to secure that position. In a meaningless game that makes sense. We don't need more people in Freddy Adu's position in our pool.
Christ, people, this has nothing to do with the German national team and everything to do with a classic club vs. country struggle. Nurnberg will run with even the flimsiest excuse to keep Chandler from playing a midweek friendly that requires flying across the Atlantic twice. They know that if he does that, he'll be tired and probably won't be able to start the following weekend. They don't care about the US national team, they just want to protect their player and look out for their own interests. This isn't rocket science.
OK, I could not tell if you were agreeing with me or making fun of me for thinking it is not acceptable. Agreed, which is why the US needs to show we won't put up with it.And it is not just a midweek friendly, it was also the bloody Gold Cup. If they can't stand up to Nurnberg, what happens dealing with an actual top club?
I don't know. If he really took a knock in practice and they had to monitor it then he shouldn't be flying across the Atlantic for a friendly. That seems legitimate to me, even if he turned out healthy enough to start. Besides, if Chandler is in fact holding out for a Germany call up then he doesn't gain anything by faking half-ass injuries. As long as he isn't cap tied to Germany the door to the US is going to remain open I would think.
I don't understand why more players dont fake injury/decline offer. What is the incentive to play here? He can ruin his entire professional career, for what? for whom? So USSF can get another payday to pay for Klinsie? Or the executive boards salary? He is a young player trying to cement his position on an up-and-coming BL team. They obviously like him and believe in him. The US has at least 4 quality RBs to choose from.
Yeah, I can see this. If it's Nurnberg that's forcing Chandler's hand again, this should be grounds for an actionable complaint.
To summarize, it is a slippery slope we can't fall prey to,about the only thing FIFA does right is protect Nat teams with FIFA dates. We need to enforce those rules. Only possible exception would be if we have traded off with Chandler's guaranteed appearance for all stages of the Olympics. IIRC, there are some funky age group release rules which kicked us in the ass for U20s.
Last Olympics, Fifa took a mandatory release stance for all U-23's, there were plenty of fighting by the clubs, though.
JMO but when I read the initial statement from Chandler's coach, he just wanted to monitor his injury in Germany. I don't think it's a big deal.
I have no problem with him not coming to be a part of the mexico beatdown. He would have three games this week along with two transatlantic flights. We already know that he is going to be part of our team for the real games. He will play in the belgium game for sure.
Saw that. I see his coach is worried about that knock and is easing him into the season. Although, we can't be too angry with him yet. Had Chandler been at the GC, there is a reasonable argument to made that Bradley is still the manager.
Yep. With chandler as a potential right back Lichaj would have played left back all game. Mexico could not do anything with him there.
Why was this friendly scheduled again? The timing right at the start of the European club season makes this one of the poorest dates on the FIFA calendar. The fed really screwed this one up. There is no reason why we should even be playing a team that we only played a little more than a month ago in an official competition.
According to Goff: "Nothing to worry about on Timmy Chandler front: In exchange for missing Mex friendly, he committed to both Sept friendlies. Details to come"
