And I don't mean to belittle your post, but Messi did not start out as a forward. Insinuating that Messi would be placed at forward is an assumption that whatever coach received him would place him there. You have to remember in La Liga he played RM for a long time before being moved centrally. You can not possibly think that watching his skill set, despite the poor disciplinary functionality of the MLS that he would not demolish the man in front of him. It's just not possible to think that way, regardless of the spot he plays on the pitch.

I think the point is that Messi would not be able to "demolish" the man in front of him because he would be getting grabbed as he tried to get past him, or slid from behind as he went past. The latter would likely result in an injury causing Messi to miss a run of games.

Given what's gone down with the skill players (Ferreira, Morales) thus far in the MLS season, I think it would be difficult to argue otherwise regardless of Messi's higher skill level or position.

While I agree with the both of you in principle demonstration of the league, I can't fathom how the world player of the year could be considered as anything other than doing whatever he wanted in this league. Eventually you have to give up the league/ref stuff for pure talent.

Joselito never liked living in the states. He didnt really like the food, the weather, etc.. He missed his family very much and I always got the impression that he was very close to his mother. Not in a "momma's boy" kinda way. Just in a Latin way. I know this to be true cuase I talked to him many times about how he liked living here, etc...

Joselito told me the same thing. At first I thought he was just homesick, but he never seemed to get over it. I remember him saying that the only food he would eat here was the chicken. And he did not like all the spices in Mexican food. He was a really nice kid.

Never forget the goal he scored on Colorado at Dragon Stadium in '03. One of the (very) few bright spots of that wretched season.

That was a very good memory :) Do you remember how we would purposely translate his entire name and use that as his nickname?

UPDATE from Greece: on TOJA and Andres ROCHA

21 July, 2011 - TOJA's team ARIS played a preseason game vs PANAITOLIKOS, which is now ROCHA's team. (Final score Aris 3 - 1 Panaitolikos) Panaitolikos was just promoted from the second division for the coming season.

Also, in the media they refer to him as Carlos Toja, rather than Juan Toja ??

    Link to article in Greek

Feel free to amuse yourself with Borat translations of articles.
FYI - the words you want in Greek are:
ΠΑΝΑΙΤΩΛΙΚΟΣ Ρότσα ΑΡΗΣ Τόχα = PANAITOLIKOS Rocha ARIS Tocha

TOJA scored a PK goal for ARIS in the 87th minute of the preseason game vs PANAITOLIKOS

And here is a photo of Andre Rocha (in blue) from that game:

idk if yall followed Ramincito's progress in England..but he almost single handedly saved Scunthorpe from relegation during his successful loan spell there, becoming an idol in the process.

Looks like he's going to be a starter this season for Leeds after scoring 3 goals in 3 friendlies for Leeds thus far. He's been on a serious role. imo he might be a reason why they earn promotion if they do.

Jacksonville (Fla.) United defeated Hollywood United 3-2 on Sunday to win the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) championship.

Jax Utd is managed by former Burn great Eric Dade.

Interesting. The site shows Dade as being on the club's staff (along with Tommy Krizanovic, who is also an NPSL player), but that Pat Cannon is the NPSL team's manager.

Cowtown - your apologies will be necessary. :D

Eric Dade and Pat Connor are the coaches. Eric was, in fact, THE coach for NPSL Championship game as Pat was out of town (per Barry Dixon of Jacksonville United via phone).

Yes - the equivalent of PDL.

The cool thing is that this is the first year that Jacksonville United has had a NPSL team.

    From what I understand:
    MLS
    NASL
    USL3
    NPSL/PDL

I do remember growing up in Jacksonville, back before I was following the sport, they had an A-League team for a couple of seasons, the Cyclones. There was even some idle talk about building a small SSS near our house in Clay County, but obviously that was all very premature.

I wonder if the Lynch's Pub team that Tommy K played for a couple of years ago is still around.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled, non-Jacksonville-related discussions on this Dallas board. :D

I watched the Jacksonville Cyclones for a couple of years (I grew up and lived in Jacksonville for twenty years). Went to several of their games the first year they moved to Jax from Tampa Bay when they played at Mandarin High School, then was a big supporter of theirs their final year in 1999 when they played at Wolfson Park (R.I.P.) Brought a drum to their games, traveled with them to their 7-0 second-round Open Cup win at the Cocoa Expos (after watching the WWC final earlier that afternoon), and ran the team's website (very poorly).

I heard Bobby say something during the game Sunday about Matt Jordan being the assistant general manager somewhere up north? can someone clarify? I always like him. He was intense.
