According to @rslsoapbox "Well @MLS is going to suspend Alvaro Saborio for a match as a result of last weekends match against San Jose, details to come."

    That watch is over.

Saborio might not have played anyway.

So, we're without our most powerful striker and our most powerful defender. But I think we're still good. Espy......um.....Jean? I kind of hope not. I'd like to see one of the new guys, or Paulo back! But something tells me Kreis may not agree about Paulo being back.

At least we have Schuler, and the other guys who will step up.

If it's true, could MLS be any slower? I think suspending Sabo would be unjust, but whatever.

My over/under prediction isn't looking too shabby.

Yeah, I think it's kind of unjust, too. But, I'm not surprised. I will try not to let the thought that there's some prejudice toward RSL entering into the picture, or some prejudice towards a nobody (Sabo), compared to a "star" (Davies). Woops, I just did.

Edit: rslsoapbox went on to add that he's not surprised, but he doesn't think it was the right thing to do.

Edit: Here's another quote from BP_TOW (Brian Dunseth): "And we've officially started on a slippery, slippery slope in MLS... It's only gonna end up w/ more focus on refs."

Edit: Some more from rslsoapbox: "I have little doubt that MLS will officially release the Saborio suspension press release as close to 5pm ET as they can to avoid questions."

    ------

In light of this and Olave's injury, which I hope we'll find out is very minor and will require minimal time out, the best thing RSL can do is win this weekend. It is totally within their hands, their grasp.

A win this weekend - now THAT will be a statement. A screw you statement all around. Screw you, MLS. Screw you, thinking this will stop us. And, what goes around comes around (Columbus.)

In other news, according to @RealSaltLake: "For those asking, Paulo is questionable"

So, Paulo questionable. Sabo is suspended. They released Artur, Yura's cousin, today. No word on Cody. Don't know if Gil is back. We have Espy, Jean, Arturo and maybe Chris Argorsor.

    I blame you.

But seriously, who do you know? I want to have secret sources like the ones you apparently have.

No claim to insider knowledge, just a fan.

Honestly, I wrote it as a joke since it is the worst possible timing of the announcement for RSL. Total crap, IMO.

Kreis' opinion, and exactly how I feel about this, too. They won't just be listening to an angry Kreis in the future, but angry fans: From RSL Tribune, Kreis says - "If they start handing down this punishment as the minimum for every case, I'll be fine with that. But the first time after this the league doesn't suspend someone, you'll be hearing from a very angry Jason Kreis."

You know what's funny about this whole situation? It's that apparently the degree of punishment depends on when you got caught. See if you can follow me here:

Scenario A: A player dives, the ref catches it. Player gets a yellow card.
Scenario B: A player dives, the ref doesn't catch it. Later review shows he dove. Player gets a fine, suspension, or both.

It's like the league is saying "if you try to fool a ref and get caught, we'll slap your wrist. But if you try to fool a ref and succeed, there's gonna be hell to pay." I'm not sure why the player should pay more dearly for the ref's mistake.

Can you imagine if our criminal justice system worked that way? A guy robs a bank and gets caught by the cops as he's running out the door. He gets a ticket. But the same guy robs the same bank, makes a clean getaway, but is caught later thanks to security camera footage? 10 years hard time.

It's funny if you think about it that way.

Nevermind the fact that there is an escalated punishment for a first time offender...

ya, kinda hard to accept, but we have to move on. i am ok with the suspension, the league wants to rid diving from the game and this is the next logical step. MLS stated after fining divies that the next obvious dive would be met with harsher consequences. i will be absolutely FURIOUS if the next person to dive does not receive a suspension or more though. sadly i think that is something the league would do, for one reason or another. their penchant for inconsistency when handing out punishments is astonishing.

    I was being half-serious.

    ------

    Edit:
Good news! @RealSaltLake - "RSL MF Luis Gil back in Utah, skipping today's Milk Cup 3rd place game for USA ... available tomorrow v Crew"

I really like this. Real Salt Lake said that Gil chose to come home to help the team.

This is just typical MLS - it's a joke.

First off, I'm not 100% certain it was a "blatant dive" - sure, there is minimal body contact but the defender does not play the ball and his trajectory would have taken him into Sabo had he not held up / "dived" sideways... i.e. he keeps running and the defender steamrolls him. There is *some* contact/obstruction.

Now, do I want Sabo or other forwards falling down that easily? No. But as in most things there are things MLS must address universally - i.e. start calling the clumsy fouling/challenges that MLS players make all the time and protect the guy with the ball; then, if you are really going to fine/suspend guys for diving do it ALL THE TIME.

Suspend Feilhaber for dropping like a sack of potatoes when Borchers makes NO contact with him. Do it to every player and every time - review every game and any obvious fouls/embellishments then punish them... otherwise it's inconsistent and uneven "justice" MLS is giving out.

I'm fine with punishing Sabo but it does not compare to Davies leaving his feet a foot before any contact is made. How many times in a game do we see stuff like that happen?

then, if they get a free kick and score from it, MLS doesn't do anything. It's such BS. I hate this MLS post-game review bull crap - totally inconsistent and absolute crap. It's bush league because it looks like 3 morons in a room trying to "act fairly" because people on blogs spout off about it.

Ok MLS disciplinary committee show us that you'll punish this EVERY time.

It's the same crap as it was last year (or the year before) when Morales got suspended via post-game review for "elbowing" a Colorado player while shielding him off. I've seen 20 elbows thrown during the run of play and shoves where the ref doesn't see it but the cameras catch it... Where's the MLS disciplinary committee? ... that's the bullcrap, the MLSDC disappears and re-appears from during the season dropping random suspensions and fines. It's SO stupid.

There are two things that bother me most about this suspensions. 1. Davies did it TWICE and got a lesser punishment. Just because he did it earlier in the season doesn't mean somehow it was less offensive than what Sabo did.
    2. Why did it take them ALL WEEK to figure out what to do and give us ZERO practices to prepare for it? It was a pretty clear cut case, what are they doing for 4 days?

Also, like the statement says "...that directly impact the game...". In other words like others have said, "get caught by the ref, yellow card and it doesn't impact the game. Ref screws up royally, then a lot worse punishment. I have a hard time understand the disciplinary committee at all this season. And Busch should have been fined or suspended more than the $500 he got for pulling crap all game long.

I'm ok with the suspension as long as this is the new precedent. Davies got away with with the first dive. He was fined $1000 for dive #2. Sabo was fined and suspended. The next guy who dives better be suspended and fined $2000. Keep making it more costly for diving. MLS can't let up now. But if the next guys takes a dive and nothing happens, RSL better cry bloody murder.

Must be, considering, God's gift to soccer, Wells Thompson, has studs up tackled players in 2 straight games and hasn't even gotten a yellow yet.

    Anyways, here come the Bumblebees...

Well, this is a break for our side. But considering how you guys have been manhandling us at home, it might not make much of a difference.

that would explain the mystery suspensions/fines we always get against them and how Pablo gets away with elbowing players in the nuts...

Are we really going to go Espy and Alvarez up top?
The left back for Columbus might as well take the night off.
    Hint, we're going left

you can only be so biased. A guy busting a players leg deserves a suspension. look, mullan is back just in time to get back in form for CCL stuff

We go left about 80% of the time anyway. Guess this means we'll be going left 90-95% of the time?
